Default NE Trip to the dragon

April 25th: Leave for Virginia (Departure time, meeting place, hotel stay in virginia still to be determined.

April 26th: Leave Virginia and make our way to the Smoky Mountain Mansion in Robbinsville, NC. We will be staying there Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday night.

April 29th: Leave for the trip back home

There's still alot to be added. I am trying to find out what time we are going to be able to check in, it appears we should be able to check in after 12:00 on Monday. I will be updating this original thread whenever I find out more information. Just wanted to post this up so people would be aware of what the plans are so far.

So far we have about 14 people committed to coming if it stays that way it will be roughly 130 per person for the 3 night stay at the mansion. There is room for more and if anyone else is interested please post here or pm me.

Attendees Thanks you erick

I would be down just need to get my motor back from the shop and a tune, which i am still not sure where i am going lol since giles is in retirement. I vote for going down wed and coming back friday. that leaves thursday for a good few trips on the dragon. and we can take different routes down and back up so we get different roads each way. anyone know about how long the drive down is?

Its 16 hrs straight shot just stopping for gas. Worth it! I did the drive down once then when I moved to South carolina, I did the dragon a few times.

I'd suggest a lot more than 1 day there. You will be exhausted from the drive down. I usually take 1.5 days each way, and 3 or 4 days there.

A day on the dragon is more tiring than a track day.

I'll be there next year, but going for WTD and DBR with s2ki.

Christine and I are in depending on logistics/dates. I'm taking nearly the entire month of Sept off work to make Homecoming II so I need to use as little time off as I can to make this trip work.

The best approach to hitting the Dragon is, as we discussed at Fall Crawl, to hit the Dragon on weekdays when there is little to no traffic. Every weekend, the Dragon is packed with bike and sports car groups whereas the weekdays find the roads pretty empty.

I also recommend limiting the number of vehicles we have going down with us. No need to draw extra attention to ourselves, and logistics are just easier.

My suggestion is to leave on a Monday afternoon/evening depending on participants schedules. Stop in WV for the night and hit the road early Tues morning. Make it to the Dragon/Fontana Tues evening before dark. Drive the Dragon Wed and Thurs. Leave for home Fri with an overnight stop in WV again. Arrive home Saturday.

This allows the weekend prior to prep yourselves and your cars and be well rested when we leave. Returning home on Sat gives Sunday to recoup (I'm getting old, I need time to relax after all this driving, ).

As mentioned at Fall Crawl, our house is a couple hours closer to the Dragon than all you guys, so anyone who wants to would be welcome to crash here the preceeding Sunday night (shaves 3hrs off, so it's a 12-13hr drive over 2 days vs 15-16hr drive over 2 days). I'm a firm believer that there's no point in making a road trip if you're too tired to enjoy yourself at your destination
