Need to disable...
Ok, so my son has one of those cheapie security devices in his car that kills the ignition and sounds the horn if your try to start the car without first pressing on the defroster button. I guess the idea is that if someone pops your ignition, the car still won;t start, and the horn will start honking.
Today, it stopped him from starting the car, even after he pressed the defroster button. After seven or eight tries, it worked and he got home. This car is old and no one wants to steal it anymore. I think the right move is to just disconnect the security device. Is anyone here familiar with these systems who can tell me the easiest way to disconnect it?

most times there is a hidden toggle switch that will let you bypass the alarm - other than that - you have to rip out everything and re-attach the factory wires together
nope the defrost button is part of system most systems have a complete bypass toggle switch somewhere by the brain do you know what type of alarm it is? if so it's petty easy to find the wiring diagrams for them..
it seems like its not an actual alarm...my father had one of those in his ford truck. turn the blinker on to start it. I would imagine theres a control unit either under the dash or in the engine compartment. take that out, reconnect the wire and you should be good.
Bill , You should find it wired to the ignition switch harness . Just pull the lower dash and remove it and reattach the starter wire going to the switch back together . Call me if you need any help

On the to-do list:
Oil change
New plugs and wires
Valve adjustment
Disable kill switch and horn alarm.
Find leak that lets rainwater into the trunk.
I sure wish the Cash for Clunkers program included all old cars and not just the gas hogs.
