Default need to redo my deck

so a few years ago I painted my deck with Behr deck latex paint. you know the standard red stuff that is sold at home depot. fast forward 3 years later and it's in horrible shape, it's flaking everywhere and needs to be redone.

how do I go about removing this paint job properly and what do I put on top so I get at least 4-5 years of out of the next one?

Rebuild it with trex or equiv product. Done forever!

Trex or Azec, we went with Azec is great, but unless you're looking to spend $$ start sanding. What about just a deck stain, vs a paint? It may hold up better as time goes by. Not so much flaking/peeling.

yes, let me throw away a couple of thousand of dollars in what i've already spent for the deck so I can install several thousand of dollars worth of trex.

Makes perfect sense to me, why didn't I think of this before??? man.. that money tree better be blooming

Was it new at the time when you painted it? If it was pressure treated wood I think you're supposed to wait a while before painting it.... so maybe it just needs a another coat?

I say, power wash or sandblast off the existing chipping paint and just repaint with a decent deck paint again. Then... see how things go in 3 years.

i stained it first... once the stain started to wear (4 years) I painted over the stain.

Decks are a wear surface .. I used to have to stain our decks every two years .

You will not find anything that will last more than a few years .

As far as removing it . You could try a preasure washer and a scraper . If you sand it it will have to be something industrial size unless you want to try your hand at the karate kid method

I can understand why you are just looking to make the deck presentable. Replacement decks aren't cheap, and those money trees don't seem to grow in everyone's back yard.

Our deck was about 22+ years when we replaced it. I doubt you've owned your place for 22 years...not even sure if you are 22.

the deck is actually about 8 years old and other than the paint, it's in perfect shape!

Dont be hatin JT, just because you used the wrong material. A wood deck is always going to need HIGH maint and in the long run will always cost you more than a synthetic material deck. You do not have to replace the framing just the top decking itself. Start now and save your self the $ over the long haul

Here is my new trex deck I it.
