Default NES2K0 complaint

I like Bass and have had fun times with you guys....
(aside from the World Series )

But, I don't like typing in my full name on a search engine to see it come up with NES2KO's site with my address.... That stuff should not be public info...

If my info can not be removed from the site, please remove me as a member with the badge..

Thanks

IF I CAN HAVE MY INFO REMOVED FROM NES2KO PLEASE DELETE THIS THREAD AFTERWARDS. THANK YOU!

I received 3 phone calls this afternoon about this. And I had all 3 people run the google search on their names with nes2ko included in the search to narrow the possible links down. All 3 people only got their names and state they live in.

From the way you worded you post, it sounds like your address was shown as well.

There are only 3 people that have access to the main database. It is the Webmaster (Vrm Vrm), the Treasurer (Bass) and myself.

Since Bass deleted your membership to NES2KO, I can't run the google search myself to see what you actually saw. But I guess I'll run a google search on the rest of the members to see if more of their info is being displayed than it should be.

Ok... I just did a search on 15 random names that we have listed as members. None of them came up with addresses being shown. Only the state where they live and the actual name of the member.

MistaSnipes, Is there a way you could send me a screen shot of what you actually saw?

If not... how about letting me know the color of the background of the page?

Feel free to send me a PM or and email to g-s2k@nes2ko.com

If your address and additional information was displayed, there is obviously a hole in our website, which needs to be fixed right away.

I'm unlocking this thread because this is an important subject that needs to be fixed ASAP if more info is being accessed through a simple google or yahoo search.

I spoke with John and he what he saw was this page

http://www.nes2ko.com/new/memberlist.asp

again when i read the post i assumed that he meant mailing address / town BUT when i looked at the link (yahoo search) it simply showed the roster

eveyone - PLEASE know that membership privacy is of the utmost importance to us!! the actual membership information (mailing address) is encrypted so that NO-ONE but Glenn, Chip, and I know your mailing address -

Sorry to cause a scene.... I guess I should have PM'd Glenn.

I'm sure I'm not alone in saying that I'm glad it's sorted out.

Wow, never had so many PM's from men..
Seriously, Steve brought up a good point privately that there should be a box to check if you want your info made public. I agree completely. Being on a member list is one thing, but it's available through a search engine... kinda scary.

No it wasn't the mailing address.... just what I though was too much info...

Hypothetically, let's say there's a pyscho girl from my past that wants to find me (just hypothetically),
and she types my full name into yahoo. Zip. Nothing. People Search, nothing. Phone information, nothing. But now my name shows up on a site that tells "her" what city and state I live in, and what kind of car I drive. Then she might do a search for the car on-line and come across an on-line car forum. Then she might check the surrounding area "clubs" and see when the next "meet" is.

It's all hypothetical, but to me the less of ourselves available through the internet, the better.

Case closed.

The more i think about this - I agree with John - there is too much personal information on the net in gerneral -

i will ask glenn & chip to remove the last name from public viewing - no need to show that

we use the info for mass mailings and such but i don't think we need to show last names - Thanks for bringing this up John!

Thoughts Glenn?

My name is all over the place. Web, business cards, phone book, etc.....I'm not worried about it....besides if someone was tracking me down....zabasearch has got me pinned.

I'm all for being careful. I counsel people about identity theft at least one a week at work. I don't think this represents a privacy or security problem.
