Looks are decent,I say decent because I'm mixed on the front end styling. What bugs me is this:

"It's powered by Subaru's 2.0-litre boxer engine, which puts out 146bhp in current production form but should develop slightly more in future iterations. "

Why make a RWD sporty looking coupe with less hp than a base Toyota Camry? Hopefully when it debuts it'll have the turbocharged engine.

146hp would be a hoot if this car came in under 2500lbs. A camry weighs 3200lbs. Plus, Subaru engines are torquey for their displacement which will help response. The Boxer layout lowers the cG which will aid in handling.

Lastly, Toyota is aiming at a 20 thousand dollar pricepoint so maybe a T/C engine will be optional.

If Toyota hits all these points, they will have a successful AE85 successor.

What's interesting here is that Subaru's involved which means this platform will support AWD. I'm sure their version will be over 3,000 lbs w/AWD system in place. I could see Toyota's coming in a few hundred lbs under that, but no less than a Corolla (~2,800 lbs) since it's a 4 seater.

No one builds a light car anymore, they're so concerned about this thing called "saftey" or something

Cute. I think it will turn out to be a chick car like the Celica.

If that thing doesn't have at least 250 hp then it's worthless in my book. I'd rather just get the Hyundai Genesis that has 2 decent engine options along with the track package components.

Boxer engine? yuk, sounds like a hard boiled egg when you drop it in the floor.
Nice body design but need more horses.

I like the conceptual styling (sans the front bumper) but I don't have much faith in Toyota these days...

Likely will be over weigh for what people hope it would be... and probably will have cut-corner interior rather than the ability to cut corner on the road. I don't think it'll live up to the 86 moniker as far as handling and fun-to-drive factor goes.

Couldn't agree more. Subaru boxer engine sounds horrible from inside the cabin or outside. It sounds more annoying than Jerry Callahan
