Default Newspaper stole my $?

I paid our newspaper subscription with the debit card. I paid the amount due for 8 weeks of the paper. Last night I'm looking at the account and the amount charged was off.

I called the Philippines (outsourced customer service) this AM (JT's cousin?) and was told they included the internet subscription in charges. I'm pretty sure I had opted out of that in January. They are switching people over to include that option, so what the heck, they took a few extra bucks that was not authorized. Hey, it's only my money. Something is

I've left a message at the "local" customer service office and sent email.

Since I've been typing this the newspaper called me. They said there was yet another notice that accounts would include internet subscription unless folks opted out...and it was not illegal to change the account. I know I opted out in January, guess once wasn't enough?

Regardless, taking more money than I authorized is not too nice, perhaps illegal? Maybe I need to call Channel 4 or 7 Consumer Reporter??

Oh at the end of the conversation, they will put my money back in my account and I'll send them a check for the subscription at less money than before....

if they did that to me I'd just cancel them.
right now I'm just looking for an excuse to cancel the paper.
the only reason I still get the paper at all is the funnys.
90% of the time, the rest of the paper goes unread.

I was darn tempted to cancel. There isn't much "news" in the newspaper anymore. BUT I was born and brought up here, so local news still means a bit to me. Plus I need to know who dies.

Exactly. I read the local newspaper - online for free.

However, I do plan to buy a printed newspaper the day my kid is born, and put it in a frame or something. Should be somewhat interesting to see when they get older.

I know but I still prefer to read a paper with breakfast...online reading doesn't appeal to me.

Hard copies of newspapers are great for getting the fire started but I get all I need from the local recycling center!
