Default Nova Scotia

I was a little bummed that we did not get a Cat trip together as a group. I had been looking at the brochures, and information on the internet and it looked like we could have pulled off a good trip. The Lighthouse scenic drive between Yarmouth and Hallifax was a serious day trip that would take about 6 hours to complete. Looked like allot of sight seeing fun.

So Connie and I put together a trip to the island. We are going for a full week, 7 nights, 8 days and will attempt to sight see most of the island. We plan on leaving on July 19th and return on the 26th. I am so excited I can hardly wait, as we have not been away in almost 17 years. Now I am trying to decide if we can make the CT Wine run which I had hoped would happen in June when there is not allot going on. But we will be able to make Rick and Lainey's BBQ/drive, which should be relaxing right before we have to go back to work.

I booked the Cape Breton Adventure, here is the web page.

It is going to be a driving/sight seeing trip, I am taking my camera. Nova Scotia has 11 scenic drive routes and I plan on hitting at least 6 if not more of them. It is allot of driving, but it appears doable. I think the whole trip will be in the vicinity of 1,700 to 2,000 miles, about 250 to 280 miles per day.

Packing for a week with the S is going to be a challenge, but we do not need any formal clothing so a couple of duffle bags and a camera bag should do it. Yahoooooo!!!!!!

Enjoy! That sounds like a great trip. You and Connie deserve a little fun and some good times!

We packed for our VA trip with a large duffle, two small duffles, and a couple soft sided coolers one for beverages, one for car cleaning supplies.

You can always find a hotel with a washer and dryer or a laundromat, mid week. Our mid week hotel had a washer and dryer and that worked out well. I hate carrying around dirty laundry.......I'm prissy about stuff like that.

You are not alone, Connie was looking at the 5 places we have booked and some have laundry facilities. I am not worried about me, since a couple pairs of pants, a few shirts, extra shoes and plenty of underwear should not take much space. I am not sure how much she plans on bringing.
The two things I was not considering was a cooler and car cleaning supplies. Softsided seems to be the way to go, since my smaller camera bag will be quite packed with lenses and other equipment, including my monopod or my tripod and they do take space. I am trial packing to get it as simple as possible.
And since we will be driving alot a cooler is a must. I was thinking that we could get a foam one when we get there but driving between hotels would not leave any room for it. So softsided it will be.
We are planning a test pack to see how it all fits together.

Nice!! I was really bumbed out too that the trip didn't happen. I was really looking forward to seeing Nova Scotia. We may be planning a trip or ourselves as well. If you see a Berlina AP1 with red interior while you out there, that may be my old S! Sold it to someone there last December.

For car cleaning supplies, Rick brought a collapsible bucket (found in on Amazon) in case a hotel had a hose available. (He did use it at the Spring Fling Hotel and at Valentine's house in VA), car wash, a few rags, glass cleaner, paper towels and spot detailer. He forgot the bug remover and we had PLENTY of bugs on the car. We often find the car wash spray it yourself booths while traveling. Not the "usual" method of washing the car, but better than driving a dirty car.

For extra trunk room, he also took out the spare tire and brought along a compressor, a tire plug kit, and a can of fix a flat. In the event we got a flat, where the heck would we put the flat with a trunk full of stuff? We also upgraded our AAA to the plus which gave us 100 miles free towing. (Not sure that's it valid in Canada). We got all the maps from AAA (good to still use a conventional map to check your GPS route) and of course many hotels offer AAA or AARP discounts.

I hope you and Connie enjoy your road trip as much as we did ours.

Thanks for the tips, My collapsible bucket is on the way. Got detail maps from Nova Scotia tourism to suplement our GPS. American Express covers in Canada for the AAA needs. As far a a flat goes, yuk. Not sure I want to take out my spare, hopefully we will not suffer that fate. You are correct, no room for a spare and baggage, unless one of us stays behind (not likely).

Thanks, I am hoping for good weather as I want to be top down as much as possible.
