Off-topic... Computer problem, heavy hitters please advise.
Unfortunately, this post is not S2000 related but I know that there are some heavy computer experts here that can steer me in the right direction.
I am running Windows XP with a new Motherboard (MSI, KT4-Ultra for about 6 days). I have had some video problems with my Gainward GF4-4200Ti. The video card works part-time, and its hit or miss
Have you tried a new Nvidia AGP card?
I've had two fail on me so far: a GeForce 256 DDR and a GeForce 4200 Ti. Both had lifetime warrantees.
The 5200 FX card is an inexpensive replacement for about $100.

I found this information under Windows 2000, but it might apply to XP also...
"RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, you need to either obtain a new copy of the file or reinstall Windows. If reinstallation fails to solve the problem, a hardware or network problem may exist. "
Does anyone know how to load just the file and not the entire OS?
Gowgom,
My current 4200 is AGP, my backup is an MSI (PCI slot) as I run a two monitor system. Because I play games, I need a little extra. No complaints with the 4200, but some of the new games would probably bog it down. Only $90 for a new 4200, thinking of getting an ATI 9500-Pro for $200. Who manufacturered your two failed cards?

Corrupted file possibly due to video driver. Here is more of what I found....
"comdlg32 - comdlg32.dll - DLL Information
DLL File: comdlg32 or comdlg32.dll
DLL Name: Windows Common Dialogs Library
Description: Contains Common Dialogs used by Windows Applications such as the Standard Open File and Change Color Forms
System DLL: Yes
Common Errors: File Not Found, Missing File, Exception Errors
Solution: Download WinTasks to find out which application is using this DLL. Many problems can be solved by resinstalling this application. If the DLL is missing, download it to your windows system folder."
Its hard to reload the file when the system will not boot.

Progress.
Connected hard drive with corrupt file as slave and used another hard drive with good OS as master. Transferred file and over-wrote bad one. Reboot machine and same error, different file.
"The image gdi32.dll is possibly corrupt."
I may need to do this several times as it appears that several files were corrupted.
QUESTION: Is it possible to over-write the entire Windows/sys32 folder with good one?

Post this on the Off-topic board, there are lots of REAL experts their. I'm not too familiar with Windoes XP but if you can get into the safe mode you can try running SFC (if that's what it's still called) to replace just the file.
I thought XP had a much better in managing it's own files?

Thanks for the input, but I cannot get to the safe mode (I don't know why). So far I have replaced 8 files in the Windows/system32 directory, most of them end in (32.dll). We are going alphabetically and are up to the O's. Hopefully there are not too many more.
I am afraid to replace the entire system32 directory .dll files as the number of files between new and old directories does not match.

But posts like this are more than welcomed here
And I'm sure someone would be able to help
