I installed a whole house humidifier last weekend so that I can set temp lower and still feel the same level of warmth.
Sure. Everyone knows when you are wet and cold you feel warm and dry.

My parents' oil heat bill was like on average $400 per month. If the oil price increases by 25%, their oil bill will go up to $500 per month!

I guess it is still better than switching to gas heat (initial cost) plus the "double the price" gas price this coming winter.

Yike!

Oh, anyone can hook me up with some good quality kil-n-dried firewood?

Steve? Bob?

Thomas

a fireplace is NOT a very efficient way to heat your home - something like 90% of the heat generated by a fireplace is lost up the flue along with the warm air that is already in the house

BUT if you want a romantic evening then a fireplace is awesome

for heat ~ get a wood stove

Thomas: Haven't met you yet but am looking forward to it.
Lumber is KD
firewood is not
Don't let anyone sell you an "extra special cord of really good pine" either.
(if you say things like kiln dried firewood, they'll think your as big a rube as me in the tire shop!)

PS. Have a great guy in S Attleboro area; old friend/excavator. Has a mountain of seasoned stuff, will post referral if the price turns out to be right.

yup Bing is right!!

you're looking for "seasoned hard wood"

Bing - I'd be interested in his price as well

oh and Thomas a cord is 4*4*8 or 128 cubic feet (4 feet high by 4 weet wide by 8 feet long)

Oh, I saw those wood stoves in the news. The demand for them has gone up substantially. A good wood stove with installation may set you back for thousands of dollars.

The heck with it. I am gonna adjust the heat to the lowest, just to keep things from getting frozen and wear lots of clothes.

If the price is right. Sign me up! I thing the small room I have next to my laundry room can hold one cord of firewood.

Thanks!

you DO NOT want to store the wood inside your home (bugs and such).... keep it either in your garage or outside covered up

oh and it doesn't sound like much until you start stacking a cord...

btw I got my wood stove for free off craigslist - the rebuild kit was on $40.00
