Opinons needed on Printer
I got an old HP laserjet 6P that has been awesome. It is over 9 years old and I'm on the first cartridge.....it is built like a tank.
I'm getting ghosting.....looks to be before the fuser, so a cartridge should be a easy fix. Cost $103.00 at Staples before any discounts.
Do I get a new cartridge...or a modern USB laserprinter....I'm looking at a HP P1006.....for about $100......

ah geez, I've just got rid of a 6mp a few months ago because it was eating paper.
had a good cartridge too....
My advice is to go color and network mounted. entry around $300 but...
PM your current email
HP has a $50 trade in your laser deal right now.
So around $250...

I was gonna mail you the rebate form but I realized it's starts in the middle of the range.
I bought my 3600N a few years back and
I can't imagine not having color now.
it's the little things, say you print out something from google maps.
the route is color not shades of grey.
When you print money, it's green.. err...never mind that one...
and it's hard to think of it now but little cubby will be printing before you know it.
They're good enough for close to photo quality but for fine photos you'll still want to do a real print.
cartridges aren't cheap, it's almost as much as the printer to do all four, but they last forever.
The only thing I wish I had was double sided.
HP Color LaserJet CP1215 Printer
or the 2025 which is a little more but has the rebate

Check out Monoprice.com for cheaper toner cartridges.
I trashed my color InkJets years ago. I just didn't print enough, and the ink was always drying out. I got a cheap Samsung B&W laser USB and haven't looked back. I don't miss printing in color at all.
As for network-capable, that's convenient, but I always have a PC running in the house as a media server. My printer is installed on that, and network shared (WinXP) so anyone on the network can print just fine. I can print from the Mac as well, so no issues there.

Cubby, if you want, I have an HP1006 you can have for cheap.. let's say 20 bucks? However you'd have to meet me at Erick's or something because I don't think you're nearby.
I bought it a few years back to replace my old HP laser. The old HP was having the same problem with ghosting, plus there was the side effect that it would trigger a momentary brown out when it warmed up. The HP1006 works fine with Windows, but primary machines are a Mac and linux boxes. The Hp 1006 uses some weird "XQX" protocol (vs. PostScript or PCL). there are XQX drivers for Linux and I have gotten it to work on one on my Ubuntu boxes but my other CentOS box just wont work with it. Since the CentOS machine is my print server... now I can't use this printer with it. So now I primarily use an ink jet and I break out the HP1006 and plug it directly into my Mac once a year when I'm printing tax returns (because it's faster).
Anyway, again, Windows boxes == OK, everything else your results may vary. I'm not sure why HP has to reinvent the wheel with this XQX protocol stuff.
