Pressure washer
Thinking about getting either a Troy Built with the Honda engine (2600 psi) at Lowes, or the Craftsman 2800 psi with the B&S professional series engine. Only about $25 difference in price. Anyone here have experience with either model?
just avoid the real cheap ones Bill.
My neighbor had his go.
According to the repair place, the compressors in them fail and repair is not economically viable.
of course the shop also sold units, so take that for what it's worth.
I have the 5 hp honda motor on an 2400 PSI Excell.
seems to have worked fine. My only issue is they used crap steel on the hose couplings so they rust up and I have take steel wool to them periodically.

I'd probably take the Honda one over B&S but then again I have a 3000psi 11hp B&S washer that's over 10-12years old and still does what it has to do.
Whats the HP on the engines? Also the PSI is generated out of the pump not so much the engine. Depends on the setup. Are they both direct drive or is there a belt that drives the engine to the pump.

Jerry, thanks for the tip on Excell. What would you say is "real cheap?"
George,
Good to hear your unit has served for over 10 years. What brand is the washer?
Lotus7, I understand that people on a Honda web site would be likely to support the Honda product. I don't mean any offense, but I'm interested in actual experience with the product rather than brand reaction. I have had many Briggs engines that outlasted the product they were bolted to and many small Honda engines on dirt bikes that failed. I think information about the longevity of a motor in a particualr application is important. Have you had a bad experience with Briggs engines on pressure washers?

I have a Honda in my 3,000psi. Used to have a craftsman tecumseh until my pump leaked and salvage the whole unit. Cost more to fix the pump than to buy a new unit.
Everyone has Briggs in life - but separate Honda engine from the pack. My 3,000 psi now is quite and vibrate less even at the max psi. Briggs & Tecumseh worse than unbalance washing machine.
Starting a Honda engine is a dream as oppose to hell in Brigg and Tecumseh.
Just my opinion. You can buy the Briggs or tecum is you want.
