The only thing I can think of, because I often scratch my head at how the registry operates, is this: Those of you who got less than two years out of a brand new registration were given plates from another month (obviously) but were charged less than the full 2 year fee. They can pro-rate the registration fee by monht from what I gather. If you had paid full 2 year fee and got say less than that, I would go in and complain. Seems very strange.
We did get new plates with the S. The dealership handled the registration. I'd have to look back and see if we paid for a full two year registration, my bet is we did but I won't lose any sleep over it.

According to the RMV's site, a regular plate fee is $36 for 2 years. If you divide 36 into 24 months and then multiply that by the 16 months you got, it comes out to $24, so it seems just about right. I am sure they have devised some extra fee that makes up the other $1.50. Now, why they are not issuing full two year registrations is beyond me. You said that when you bought the E-class it was not a swap of plates from another car, right?

nah, I haven't done a transfer in years.
I suspect it is just that the dealers have a collection of plates and they just process them in order. think of it as registry roulette.

and i'm special on their list but not for that reason. and no i've never had my license suspended in massachusetts.
