Rolling Coal
Yeah, this isn't new, but it's gaining (social) popularity.
Here's what I posted a few weeks ago elsewhere...
On the way home last night in a 2 lane construction zone (that opens back to 3 lanes at the bottom of a bridge) I happen upon an F350 coal burner, me in my S2000 with top down, enjoying the day.
With this thread fresh in my mind, I give them room behind them knowing how many barrels I have before the right lane opens again at the bottom of the (Braga) bridge. I also have a dash cam running, just in case.
When the jersey barriers on my right end, I downshift to 3rd, waiting (and closing the gap slowly to the 350).
I get behind, and know there's only a few barrels left, and I hear them spool. YEP! I'm already in the proper gear, last barrel and I'm already by/next to them when I see in my mirror a dark, but short puff of black smoke. I even heard them lift becuase... well, I'm no longer there and already by them.
My exit is within a 1/2 mile and they never even had the chance to catch up as there were other cars in the middle lane.
Also....
IOW, they defeated the things that prevented them from rolling coal.

WASHINGTON –In a settlement with the United States on behalf of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, automotive electronics manufacturer Edge Products LLC (Edge) has agreed to pay a $500,000 civil penalty for manufacturing and selling electronic devices that allowed owners of model year 2007 and later diesel pickup trucks to remove emission controls from their vehicles. Diesel trucks that are not equipped with emission controls known as “diesel particulate filters” emit excess particulate matter (PM). When running, trucks without these types of controls leave behind a trail of dark, black smoke. PM is associated with a number of health problems, including respiratory and cardiovascular disease, chronic bronchitis, decreased lung function, and an increased risk of lung cancer.

There is an audio equivalent that some guys in gas trucks have. They seem to have a muffler cut-out system and the exhaust outlet exits the truck at the height of a passenger car or sports car's window. When they get beside you, the hit the cut-out, downshift and floor it. The sound is more than enough to damage human hearing.
Was coming back from the mall today with the wife enjoying a cruise top down, it's been a while since we been in the 2000 because we both just got motorcycles, anyways, I see this guy in the truck behind me trying to catch up as fast as he could and we come to a stop light and I see he's bellowing black smoke behind me and I already knew what was going to happen, needless to say I slowly take off and I hear him floor it and try to switch to the right lane to get in front, well I vtecD all the way to 4th and got far ahead but I could see he wasn't letting off until I hit about 100, go f@#k yourself douchebag, hope you rollover, was all that I was saying to myself

You are a better person than me. I think much worse things.

Loud pipes don't save ****. This morning on the way in to work (top down) I had a Harley right behind me on 195E over the Braga Bridge in Fall River. Couldn't hear him anyways with the top down, but I knew he was there becuase, you know, I'm a safe driver and am always checking mirrors not like 90% of the population that doesn't.
Anyhoo, I get to the bottom of the bridge, move right because I finished passing, and get under Government Center as he starts to accel in the left lane.
Holy hell my ears started bleeding in the tunnel. I had to cover both of them. Seriously. Drove with my knee. Couldn't hear him behind me with my top down at all on the highway, never mind someone in a hard top with the radio on, but when they're in front of you? That's the only ****ing time you hear them, and when they're in front of you, what does it matter if the pipes are loud or not?

In doing my registration for NC I found that they have a form for reporting someone ROLLING COAL! So catch these guys licence plates and turn them in. Likely they have something similar in the NE.
