is the S too small to live in
I have no doubt you'll find something for under 1K a month in that area. Be patient, and don't let the landlord push you out until you find a place. The law is on your side, and if you can prove that you're looking, it's almost impossible to kick you out of your current home, if you want to go that route.
Can you swing the place you're, to buy? If you're close to that range, tell the owners that you'll be a pain-in-the-ass unless you can work out a deal. Every month that place isn't sold, is big money on mortgage, etc...

Moses thanks for the advise however, the house i rent is owed by my mom & dad and even though i pay fair market value in rent, the home is considered a business venture for them
they intend to sell the home in April and frankly i can not afford to purchase the home on my own given the property values in Norfolk along with my current debt (DON"T SAY IT SCOTT, GLENN, JEFF, JOHN ETC ETC ETC I'm keep'n my S!!)
I'll find a place sooner or later but i must adhear to their wishes being a tenant at will
I guess if i really wanted to be a PIA to them i could say that i am moving back in them
