S2000
Not sure this really fits in this thread...or that I really want to get involved; however I will post it because I've had a bit too much to drink.
One of my friends is a hard-core fan of large-engine, high-torque cars. He certainly can appreciate other approaches; however he told me, just yesterday, that the s2000 went to the top of his list for his next car after driving my supercharged StooK. The s2000 can be made to suit other likes/dislikes than it was originally intended; however that will cost a decent amount of $.
The s2k may not be the most powerful car, nor the most powerful off the line - yet it excels in a few wonderful areas:
1 - Convertible. This car was made to be convertible. It wasn't an afterthought... it has no other motives. It is incredibly fun on a beautiful day to cruise with the top down.
2 - It is a driver's car. It was designed to be driven, not to be ridden inside. If you are using your car for point-a to point-b transport you will not be happy (nor will your car!).
3 - Handling. Admittedly the s2000 is not the BEST in class here; however it is better than most. The chances are that if you meet something else on the road you will laugh away curves that will send chills up and down their spines.
4 - Cost (here's the big one!). The StooK is a "best-bang-for-your-buck" car. It has high performance written all over it and is stylish to-boot. Finding another new car with this same level of performance/handling/fit&finish for $30k simply is an impossible task. We chose, and we chose wisely.
What the s2k is not:
- Drag racer. Yes, it can launch if need-be; however you're going to stress, if not break something. It was made for exhilirating runs of 10mph-140mph on open and curvy roads, not for asphault-tearing muscle.
- The fastest car. Yes it is fast. No it is not the fastest. There are MANY MANY MANY cars out there that will leave you far behind... deal with it. You should not buy a StooK for the speed alone - buy it for the well-rounding speed, handling and styling that make it a winner.

Wonderboy: consider trading in your 2002 model for a 2004. It has a higher mid range torque with no reduction in peak power. It may not be an RX-7, but it may be closer to what you want.
