I don't think they're fake... look at the hand/sleeve in the upper right corner and use that for scale. Looking at the soldier's legs in the background gives the illusion that they're bigger'n your head, but I think they're much closer to the camera. Probably taken with a universal focus point & shoot camera. They look like they're the size of a small hand. Which is still farking huge... but not unbelieveably so.
