Default Spugen exhaust

I spoke with Duc in California about the Spugen single and dual cat back exhaust system. He is a very nice guy. If any of you are interested in the Group buy that is going on right now in the Marketplace forum, I'd be happy to share my conversation with Duc. Let me know.

This is a very reasonably priced system, but is not 100% stainless and is 0% titanium. I am going to do some more research on it, but I am probably getting the single for autocrossing.

Bill...

I'm not 100% sure of this... but...

Will a single exhaust put you into a Non-stock catagory?

Francis? Aaron?

Glenn,

The SCCA rules last year said any exhaust after the cat. which is not unrasonably loud (I'm working from memory, the actual language may be different). I do not know what the BMW rules say. I thought someone said they were the same as SCCA. I'm going to re-check the SCCA web site now. Thanks for the heads up.

Bill, I think you want something that is really good. such as Amuse or Mugen... I don't know about that Spugen, but I will never step my foot on it. Maybe it is just me..

However, I have the same concept as Bill, I recalled Francis told me the aftermarket cat-back exhaust doesn't put you in modify group or whatever it calls. that is why Francis is putting the Mugen exahust on the car...!!

Derrick,

After reading about two dozen threads about exhausts, it seems the high priced stuff is good for reducing weight without loosing power or getting a slight gain. By going to a single Spugen system, I get most of the weight loss. The So-Cal guys claim a 7 to 9 hp increase with the Spugen single which uses Magnaflow mufflers which are very good mufflers. Before I buy from them, I am going to check the Magnaflow dealers around here to see if any of them have mandrel benders and experience making systems.

If you think that is being too cheap, many of the competitive autocross guys on this site are now dumping the Spugen or Ti singles and going to a short pipe after the Cat. with no muffler or silencer; just a turn down at the end of the pipe to reduce noise! Lowest weight of all! Least expensive of all! Most free flowing.

This is consistant with my experience with other cars and I thought it was interesting to see the development of the exhausts on the S2000 by reading through many old threads.

Keep in mind, this is just my first year back at autocross so I don't need a titanium single just yet. Heck, I probably don't need any different exhaust, I'm just looking for info during the winter months before racing season starts up.

Thanks for worrying about me.

When are you leaving anyway buddy?

Bill,

the idea I have is... you can get a used Spoon single exhaust for $400-$500 bucks, it saves weight..!! I highly doubt the Spugen will reduce the weight to 19 lbs. and I doubt the durability will be as good as spoon. 7-9 hps is very amazing as I can tell you. Amuse, J's, Spoon, and speed don't make as much power as being a very high-end aftermarket parts company. that is all I am saying. Cheap stuff is good, but unless I could believe them, I wouldn't step my foot on it.

However, I just checked their dual exhaust, it makes 1.5lb/tq and 1.2 hp, which is not that good at all... but I couldn't find the link of a dyno for 7-9 hps as the single exhaust.... if possible, I would love to see the dyno chart!!

Bill, any muffler shop like Midas (do you guys have those?) should be able to bend piping for you in house. Just bring them the muffler you want to use. Hell they might even sell Magnaflows.

Derrick,

PM ahhvtec. His name is Duc and he will answer any question and send you any dyno results. You will see his posts on any of the Spugen exhaust threads. He told me the duals dynoed a 5 to 7 hp gain. The dyno you might have seen on one of the threads was not a comparison, but two seperate runs with the Spugen. They were within 1.5 hp of eachother.

Best Regards.
