For the folks that store it for the winter, do you guys remove the insurance for it? Will the insurance company allow it if you're still financing it?
SFactor!I remove any insurance that would only be used if the car was moving
(collision, liability, towing etc.) and keep things like fire and theft on.
I still have a loan out on it but what they don't know won't hurt them, besides
I keep the coverage on there for anything that might happen while it's sitting
idle in storage.
Saves me a couple hundred a year.
Year round.
My new Blizzak WS-60 set is going to get mounted and balanced in short order.
Bring on the cold.
Yeah, pulling the insurance on the car during garage months is probably a good idea, guys. Save you some bucks, although might be a little hassle with the DMV (dunno).

The following year I had to get an RMV1 form from my insurance co and bring that to the RMV. I had to pay reg fees etc.
Somewhat of a hassel. This year I am sticking with the minimums to avoid the run around.

I pulled my insurance last year completely. It requires returing your plates before they cancel minimum insurance requirements.

get a refund check a week or so later. Works for me.
Bill (or anyone else), I don't know if your insurance has this, but I've got a "limited mileage" plan setup with my Insurance company. Basically, I have a lower rate based on only 3000 miles a year that I put on her.
It is a full 12 month coverage (Kimmie always snickers about how we are paying insurance on a car that doesn't get driven for 4 of those), but the rate (I believe) is something like 75% of the rgular coverage. It's not a huge difference (around 400 bucks for me) but it's something.
Oh, and the only other nussance is that I have to report my odometer reading to the agent yearly...

We have that here as well. They can send you a form to fill out. They verify your mileage by your inspection sticker.
I think our low mileage is 5000 for premium break, and 7500 also gets you something. We may qualify for the 7500 one this year. Life gets in the way of fun....
The percentage is not all that great 10% for the 5000 and 5% for the 7500, I think, don't quote me on that.
IF you have a loan on your S most insurance companies won't let you drop coverage without the approval of the lender. If you keep it registered, how do they know you won't take it for a ride when you have no collision coverage?
We dropped collision coverage last year, saved about $150.00 or so. Not sure what we'll do this year. I don't want to deal with re-registering the car every year, and MA does not allow you to keep only fire/theft/comprehensive, and drop liability. Also another policy we have does not let us drop liability limits to the minimum.
Need to call the agent and find out if there are any new "rules" for us.
Our S goes under cover generally by mid November, if not sooner.

I know some of the insurance companies actually have a "storage" plan. Basically, you give them the mileage when you enter the "storage" phase. When you pull it out of storage, you give them the mileage. It has to be less than a set amount of miles (10-20 for moving to storage). The insurance company will then reimburse you for the difference between full coverage and storage coverage.
