Default Steve!

Hey man, can you tell me more about this foam cannon setup you were raving about a couple of weeks ago?

I went out and bought a pressure washer last night so that I could try this method out, but before I open it and assemble it I just have a couple of questions.

First, what is the scope of this whole idea?

Cover the whole car,
let it sit,
rinse it off,
done?

My S in particular is pretty slippery at the moment so it would be great if there was no scrubbing necessary to prevent "swirlies"

The PW I bought is rated at 2600psi which I believe is recommended pressure for one of these cannons. Unfortunately, there is no adjustment to this model since the engine (Honda btw) is optimized to run at full throttle all the time... My worry is damaging the car with that much pressure. Is it true that the foam cannons have restrictors on them or is there another valve that is necessary here?

Also, what sort of product do you prefer? The Sears store that I bought the PW from sells this "Perfect mix" stuff formulated for cars which is suppsoed to have the proper ph level as to not affect the pump. But being as it's a Sears product, maybe it's not so good for the paint, wax, rubber, etc on the car... I believe you used one of the wands with the tank attached? Is this correct? If so, do you have a recommendation? I checked Autogeek and they had a pinnacle kit. This would probably be the ideal way to go since the soap doesn't need to pass through the pump on the PW.

Lastly, what sort of soap do you prefer. I am leaning towards the Meguires Gold but I've read others out there who use other brands as well as mixtures of brands.

Anyways, as always, I appreciate your input. I'm pretty psyched to try this thing out Thanks in advance!

awesome you're going to love your power washer and cannon!! i use mine every week when i wash my cars

i bought my cannon used from a member of Autopia - but they are all the same - here's a link for a new one

http://www.autogeek.net/autogeek-foam-cannon-hp.html

I’ve tried a few different soaps BUT I’m really happy with Meg’s hyper wash and at $25.00 a gallon it’s a great deal

what i do is use 3 ounces of meg's hyper wash (excellent wash) to 30 ounces of hot water in the cannon's tank. I’ll foam the whole car while it's dry – I’ll let the foam dwell for a few minutes and then rinse off with my green nozzle.. then I’ll dry the car with my leaf blower – spotless wash and no chance of swirls, then I finish with either QD or spray wax

i don't use the soap section of my power washer so i'm not concerned with the ph levels of soap running through the pump - plus it only pulls from that during low pressure..

Kenta took a video of our last foam day - just to give you an idea

ALSO - mine is also rated at 2600 - you won't damage your car as long as you use the right nozzle - the pressure on these things is based on which nozzle you use -

for mine i will never use the 0 degree on anything - either 40 degree or 25 degree and just keep in mind that the wand should be a two feet away from the paint - you'll get the hang of it quickly as it's the same as those self serve places

Oh wow. that is awesome.

Just one thing, you foam the car when it's dry? Is it more effective than pre-rinsing?

Thanks again!

And by zero degree, do you mean angle of attack?

i did a lot of reading before i got my set up and most say the foam sticks better and dwells longer on a dry car - i tried both and i like foaming on a dry car

i just didn't see the need for a pre-rinse step - when the foam works as well as it does

then again my car is never too dirty..

zero degrees and 25 degrees and 40 degrees are how the nozzles are rated - the lower the degree the more pressure coming out of the wand

zero ~ can eat through brick, wood, paint (just ask my sister when she borrowed mine even though i told her NEVER to use the zero one )

here's a good link

Yeah but I think it's time for another full application of the HD stuff.
