stupid dog
ok as anyone who has been to my office will attest, I'm not exactly the obsessive compulsive disorder type.
but tonight unloading the groceries after a BJ's run, I was picking up the 60 lb bag of dog kibble when that sucker popped wide open into my wifes trunk...
for those of you without the luxury of a dog, kibble is little pellets about 3/4 an inch across and about 1/2 an inch tall. They don't weigh a heck of a lot so you need a lot of 'em to get 60 pounds worth.
Does a good job of covering the bottom of a trunk about 2-3 inches deep.
now if the trunk was just sitting there empty it wouldn't been quite so bad.
But no there were all these groceries underneath mixed and intermingled with the kibble.
....sigh
and no dave I didn't think to take pictures.

Well Jerry there really is a simple solution to your kibble problem. Start feeding the dog steak! It comes neatly packaged, no real chance of a spill and I'm sure he'd enjoy it whether it was grilled or raw! Problem solved!
Oh and for your existing kibble problem - find a way to get the dog in the trunk and let him take care of the problem. I know he's rather large so perhaps you could build a ramp type system with a platform on the top where he could lay and pretend the trunk was his bowl so to speak.

it only took about a half hour to pick out and clean up.
Teeny trunk in the S
bill,
tell your son to buy 'Monks of New Skete".
read it before he gets a dog.
it's important to know what 'kind' of dog he wants.
the breed is sort of an indicator but he needs to understand activity level, attachment vs separation etc.
a malamute or husky are wonderfully independent dogs but hard as hell to train cuz they just don't care about you.
weimaraner's are great companions but we call 'em hip dogs becuase they have to be beside you always. they don't take separation well at all.
labs and retrievers are good overall dogs but very active as pups.
and of course as steve has pointed out then there are mastiffs which are just stupid. lovable but stoooopid.
be careful when rescuing dogs. don;t just say yah gimme that one.
spend a lot of time with them to make sure they are the right dog.
see how they socialize. do they bark a lot? are they too jumpy?
