Thinking about moving on from the S
Begin social distancing rant:
So I have been toying with the idea of either supercharging, or selling my S for the last year or so. With the C8 Vette coming out the C7's, which to me are sexy in the Grand Sport and Z06 configuration are dropping in price. I have been sucked into the vortex and found a 2019 C7 Grandsport in gray shadow metallic of just under $57k, 0%apr over 84 months with 120 day payment deferment.
I checked autotrader to get an idea of the value of my car and there is an NFR 2000 with 33k on it listed for $22.9 in Shrewsbury. I just turned 44k on mine and, in my mind, my car is far cleaner than this other one...not that I expect to get $23k, but it gets the mind working on what I should do.
I realize the forum I'm on and what the overwhelming response will be, but I figured I would ask....anyone local made the switch? If so what are your thoughts and more so feelings on moving away from the S? Its been a part of my life for around 8-10 years, and while it still brings a smile to my face when I look at it or drive it, I kind of feel like its time to move up in platforms.
I've actually moved away from social networking as well as distancing but for those interested there are some pics of my S on "the gram" @ipb13 not a for sale thread so too lazy to post them
Any thoughts or input, constructive or otherwise is welcome!

Many who've moved on end up coming back. Other cars are faster. Other cars can stop harder, and turn higher G's. But compared to the S, they can all seem like merely big engine and big tires.
There is something magic about this car. Its more of a pure driver experience rather than amusement park ride.
But I think a big part of that magic is in how often you use it. If your fun car is ouy of necessity a garage queen, then those few opportunities you have to sample it, well maybe an amusement park ride is what you want. Especially if the platform is still somewhat of an engaging drivers experience, which the car you are looking at certainly is.
The S is best when it can be sampled regularly.

Probably two big factors to think about here
1. How do you use the car today - If it's the occasional drive and the drive is mostly just scenic and you want to hear the sound of your exhaust etc. vs you've got some windy fun backroads that you try to hit every other weekend or want to do autocross/track days etc. The s2000 is great for both, but perhaps the C7 might fit into category 1 of this and maybe the track piece. Based on your post, it sounds like you want something with a little more power.
2. Cost - You're about to drop 57K on a car that's going to depreciate way faster than your s2000 which arguably will stay at or increase in value. It's always been a consideration for me when I think about changing platforms.
Also at 57K couldn't you just get a BASE C8?? Would personally do that all day over the 19

I think I put like 1500 miles on the S last year, my schedule is fairly hectic so I drive it when I can, on nice days, so it has by default become a garage queen. When ever I drive it I am reminded how much I love it, but the appeal of a throaty V8 has a high level of appeal.
On the C7 vs C8, the C8's I've not seen many under $70k. I came close to pre-ordering one, with the z51 package, but there is something about the front end that hasn't won me over. Depreciation of the Vette vs. value of the S is on my mind as well. I wouldn't even consider new if it weren't for the current deals.
Ultimately you're right I want more power at the end of the day. I looked at the KW super chargers, but the issues have kept me away, and have been keeping an eye out for SOS, and I may ultimately end up just biting the bullet and going this route, but man its tempting!

Pretty sure you can throw your name on the list and score one in a few months. I initially had a deposit down on a C8 (before I spec'd it to 90k
) and decided against it. A rep at Herb Chambers just emailed me about the convertible version.
If you decide to keep the S, Keep an eye out for the CT engineering kit as well, the newer ones came with a 1200 blower. Effectively an sos kit with the aftercooler in a different orientation.

What’s the cost of this? If you’ve done it yourself then that cuts way down on the cost. I can’t imagine paying a shop for such an extensive conversion would be economical. Just having a shop slap on a supercharger is $9k - $10k.

Fair enough. I dig the look of the C8 front, the rear is what's throwing me off.

Too many factors. I would say all in it was about what your supercharger install price range is. Then I recouped a lot of that cost by selling my stock engine/trans and the Vortech S/C kit that the previous owner had installed. I'd be willing to bet now is a great time to get a job like this done. A lot of shops are hurting for business.
I forgot about those! I also looked at a few TVS style kits like IMT, but I don't think they make those anymore either. I wish I had a better feeling about KW. I have a friend that runs a high end shop, i'll shoo t him a note and see if he knows if they have improved.
I thought about this, and if I had a high mileage car I would be more inclined to go this route, but I'd have a hard time pulling a 44k mile engine out of my S. It's super tempting though!
