Default Thinking about selling the S2000

Before you guys slaughter me...here is the reason why...

Things are going very well at work for me, Pinky will attest to that. And I've been given the offer to purchase a 05 Carrera S (the one with the 3.8L 360hp engine) at just above invoice - around $500. It's a $85k car...

At first I brushed it off like it was nothing, because I would never be able to buy that car. Well, then I was told I could...because the markup on them is around 40-50%. So I could get a Loaded Carrera S with the hotlap timer and Nav and the sports package with the Carbon Ceramic Porsche brakes for sub $50k.

My girlfriend is all about it, The only thing that worries me is the insurance, maintence and taxes...omg the taxes on that thing...I'd prob have to register it in VT and "dock it" at my family's home to avoid paying $1000 in taxes every year.

Here is what Jeremy Clarkson has to say about the car.

That car is unreal..

Luke,

Come again? Sub 50K for a loaded 2005 Carrera S? How is that possible? I want one too.

Can you set up a group buy at that price?

Luke!

If you can do it...........do it. It would be a tremendous move up. And worse case, unload it in a year......you probably wouldn't lose money.

I would've gotten it in a heartbeat at that price. At worst you can re-sell it for tens of thousands in profit.

Is the margin really 40-50%? Wow!!

If you pass on it and the offer is transferable, be sure to let me know.

Hmmm... just checked KBB and Edmunds...

Dealer margin is pretty steep (as it should for Porsche), but no where near 40-50% - it is more like 15%.

Is the offer $ over invoice or rock bottom manufacture cost? Someone could be pulling your chain.

Ben I cannot devulge where i'm getting the car from, or where the offer is coming from, but it's the manufacturer price and it's 100% legal. I'm going to do more checking into the cost of ownership, which is the only thing worrying me.
