Default Thoughts? Comment Satellite TV....

My cable bill just shot up.....my promotional pricing just ended (again) I do this every year....I got most services except for a few premiums.... I have HD, DVR.. internet.

Bill just went to $176.00....from about $130.00. If I was a new customer I'd get $135/mo-but only for 6 months....$41 cheaper.....almost worth cancelling and starting new.

While on the phone...they said they couldn't do anything this time unless I added a service.....not much to add....I don't want phone or anything more.

Thinking about just keeping internet...and going Direct TV.

Any Experiences with their product? I have an unobstructed sight line......

Just priced out their stuff.....

i've had them all - dish, direct tv and comcast

with regards to Satellite i thought the dish picture was a little better and i think they offer more high def than direct tv

for comparison sake right now I have i have 16 meg Comcast Internet with phone and high def TV with dvr, hbo, stars for $155.00 a month

when you are pricing out – make sure to ask how much more the locals channels are with satellite and how much more the dvr is and how much more for each TV as each TV needs a box now

Steve, how good is the phone service, and how reliable is the internet service? I'm thinking about doing the same thing.

I'm planning to keep the high speed internet with Charter......although, perhaps I'll look at DSL again.

no problems at Bill. my Internet / phone has never gone down plus they just back feed the house phone lines so all your phone jacks work as they should

i also like the option of checking all the calls / voice mails online

I've had DirecTV for about 3 years now. About 9 months ago, the gave me a free movie channel (Cinemax) to reinforce my continued purchase of their service. There are some drawbacks: in really bad weather, you may loose the signal and a couple weeks ago, one of their satelites had a problem and we didn't have local stations for mostof the day. They open up some national level network stations if this happens. I've hardly ever had to wait to talk to someone if I've had some issue. I can change services instantly online. The picture always looks really good. That said, most of the time, its just good looking crap (57 Channels and Nothing's On).

I recently tried to hook up my laptop to the Comcast modem. I spent most of a Saturday with them on the phone and a couple of the coalls dropped me before I could talk to anyone. I sort of got somewhere with the last person, after over an hour, then realized the ethernet cable from the modem to the computer was part of the problem. Each call had a wait time of at least several minutes before a gatekeeper answered and directed me to an internet tech, despite the fact that I'd had to send myself to the internet sub-menu in voice mail after having to listen to Shaq and the droning Ben Stein in the opening voice mail ad!

Unfortunately, Comcast is the high speed internet provider in town. I use their phone service only because it's cheaper to bundle phine and internet than internet alone. Comcast continues to increase their prices and passes through any increase from content providers to the customer.

I have directv and love it. I *HAD* charter for high speed internet but canceled that and now I tether my iphone for the net which is just as fast (almost) and a helluva lot cheaper.

Just priced similar plans Dish and Direct
24 month cost
Direct $2135
Dish $1979

after that assuming the priceing stays the same Dish will be $15/mo cheaper.
Doees require a 24 month committment.

Hopefully by then Charter will be finally out of business, they will have a "come back to us" promo" or FIOS will be in town.

If I stay where I'm at.....24 month cost for similar service is $2664.

Saving of about $684 over 2 years.
