Default Time to change the clutch!

Yup, after a mere 25K miles, the clutch feels like it is on its last legs. It isn't slipping yet, but it is grabbing way up near the top of the pedal travel. I have changed out the fluid and adjusted the actuator rod so I know those are not the issue.

How many miles did you get out of your clutch? If you changed it, what did you put in? How did you like it?

I just do take care of my cars I guess. all of the maintenance doesn't cost me that much so why not take advantage of it. When the time comes it is nice to show a proper maintenance to future owner.

Tommi

It's nice to see people taking good care of their cars! I don't expect to ever sell my car but if I croak my husband probably will Hopefully he remembers to post it here first!

I expect to get at least 50k out of my clutch... if not I'll be really disappointed. Most Hondas will give you 100-200k on the original clutch but I have a feeling with my track days and group drives that the S clutch may have a shorter life than most of my other Hondas I'm really stingy using it other than a few hard drives a year.

Bill, I have about the same mileage on mine as you do, so far so good here.

My first S (2002) had clutch work done at around 35K miles, symptoms were same as Bill's. I was told it was the throw out bearing, was covered under warranty.

My current S (2003) has developed the same problem at around 40K miles. I am wondering what to do about it and how much it will cost to fix?

The thing is, the clutch does not really slip, it's just the engage/disengage that's the problem and takes the fun out of driving.

Let me know what you end up doing, Bill.

Mine engages and disengages right at the very top of the travel before I reach the last fraction of an inch which is just pedal play. It seems to grab ok, but the engagement has raised from the middle to the very top and I figure it is just a matter of time before it starts to slip. Where does everyone elses clutch grab at? Maybe mine is fine???

I spoke to Scott and he recommends a three piece kit. Clutch Master or something, I can't remember. Others suggest an ACT PP with an OEM disc, TO bearing and pilot bearing. Billman from metro says the PP can be cleaned up with sandpaper if it not too burnt. Scott recommnends having them resurfaced anyway.
