TPMS
Yeah, I realize it's a bit overkill but considering the tires were "free" I figure I'll use them. And I like the idea of a spare set of wheels anyways.
I never had snows on my Audi A4 (quattro) so I know it's not needed with AWD, but I had 3 different sets of all-season tires on that car, and they all started to noticeably suck in the winter when they were half worn. Yeah, I could make it up hills and not get stuck anywhere, but the key difference was in the stopping and turning.
When I bought the S2000, Joe (thankfully) included a spare set of wheels with snow tires for it. I have driven it in the snow, and was amazed how good snow tires really are. The S2000 on snow tires stopped and turned better than my Audi on 75% worn-down Bridgestone all-seasons (the RE92A that were coincidentally OEM on Subarus at the time)
I plan to keep the Subaru a long time, and it's going to be my wife's daily driver. I figure I'll get plenty of use out of a spare set of wheels with the snow tires (which are also nearly new).
I realize they're certainly not necessary, but neither is a 5-star crash rating or ABS or stability control. I think the added margin of safety could easily prove worthwhile.

Option 3
Take the 4 TPMS sensors and stick them in a tube you can make out of PVC pipe and a screw on air fitting and set the pressure and stick it in the car . MAke sure you put a sticker on it that says BOMB incase you ever get your car search
But seriously thats how you get rid of the issue for good

You would have to re-balance the tires. Though I give you a big
for finding a way to reduce rotational mass!
I turned the system off on Erin's Touareg...sensors are 6 years old and were reaching the end or their life. Luckily, eliminating the system was a simple matter of a fuse removal, and to recode the computer it let it know the Module doesn't exist.
My IS has a menu option to switch between 2 sets of TPMS sets....summer and winter....

I just think it kinda proves my point... people either ignore it altogether, or go out of their way to remedy the annoyance of the system at added cost and effort. So who is it protecting?

You'd think a company like Subaru would do that, given the number of their owners that that switch to snows. But I guess not.

There are also companies like Town Fair Tire that do the winter/spring tire changeover for free (providing you bought them from there), thusly eliminating the need to reprogram.
