Default Video Game Systems

Well, seeing that I'm pretty much stuck in my home this summer due to my accident, my wife thought it would be a good idea to get a game console to play (I have summers off- teacher). Today she came home with a Wii system and games. I have yet to open it because I'm not sure if I should keep it. I'm looking for advice on what system to get i.e. playstation III, xbox 360.

I like car and sport games. I don't know much about these things. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

If you plan on doing a lot of online play, get the xbox 360 and subscribe to live.

If you plan on playing games alone, get the ps3, you can alos play online with the ps3, but the interface is better for the xbox. No big deal.

IMO, you can't go wrong with the PS3 or Xbox.

the wii is really cool, but I wonder if the movement things are good for a guy with a bum leg. the games are mediocre also, IMO.

Joking aside, I have a Wii and my computer. The Wii is a good item for parties, friends, and people of all ages, but if you're into gaming, it's not top-notch on graphics or controls. It's unique, and offers different fun for all types, but it's not what a serious gamer would get. As with any Nintendo system, the best games are made by Nintendo, so don't expect a huge variety of top quality stuff.

And Jeff does have a good point - many of them are best played standing up.

You should be able to find numerous opinions about this on Google. I didn't fall in love with any of the consoles this round actually. PC games are ok, but you need to use Windows (which I refuse to do) and all the hardware isn't the same so results vary.

I ultimately purchased a PS3 about a year and a half ago for the following reasons:
1. Built-in WiFi
2. Full 1080p output (may not be important if you don't have an HDTV)
3. Blu-ray drive for movies
4. Most powerful hardware
5. Most room for expansion and upgrades - the full power of the PS3 is barely being tapped by current games. In my opinion, games are better for the PS3 now, but only by a narrow margin. In a few years, the Xbox360 will be left in the dust. Plan now.

As for online community goes, the others are correct that Xbox360 is on top. However, you can still play almost every PS3 game online and the UI is being incrementally improved with firmware upgrades.

Lastly, get Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, Grand Theft Auto 4, Burnout Paradise, and Resistance. They are the best games for the PS3 IMHO.

Just my two cents...

Im not sure if the deal is still on, but Walmart was selling the core PS3 system for $399, which is the same most everywhere, but they bundled in a $100 gift card, which you can then use to buy a 2nd controller, and a game. Great deal if you want a PS3. Im a 360 owner myself, but only because of price and game selection at the time I purchased.
I wouldnt mind a PS3 for Bluray and gaming use...

Edit: Deal looks to still be active.

Until I got the Wii a few months ago, it was Game Boy. I think I was 12. Although I didn't actually buy it, I still have both Game Boy and the original NES, and they still work.
