When a friend passes...
A friend/colleague of mine, Megan Lally, died on Friday after battling breast cancer for 3 years. It metastasized to her liver about a year ago and she fought it bravely until the end. Her fight is well-chronicled in her blog at http://meganpinkblog.blogspot.com/ which has not been updated with the final news.
Megan leaves behind a core of many friends at my company (Stratus) as well as her loved ones, including her husband Rusty, who was her college sweetheart from WPI.
She graduated about 10 years ago and came to Stratus as a full-time employee after co-oping the prior year. She was a star in our software department, and I always admired and enjoyed talking with her about work as well as everything else. She was a rabid South Park fan for a while, and we used to have some fun talking about that. She was also the most devoted Phish fan I have ever heard of. Anyway, as both her friend and co-worker we always ate lunch together and she fit in so well with us older folks.
Anyway, I am hurting from the news and I will really miss her presence at work and elsewhere. The unfairness of breast cancer afflicting a young woman (and ultimately taking her life) is appaling to me, but I just wanted to share my sadness/grief with you folks as we've had this experience together (unfortunately) before.
Anyway, my fondest wishes for the labor day holiday, but please light a candle or something for Megan if you feel inclined.

My best to you all, and sorry to hear about your friend as well, JS. Thanks all for sharing my grief.
Megan is missed.
This is particularly difficult for me. I am returning to work tomorrow after a couple of months off and going back amidst this a fairly unhappy situation. On the other hand, I hope to try to honor her memory somehow with our colleagues and friends.
