I hope this is the case. There just isn't anything out there yet that proves it. I'm sure that very shortly after the new phone hits the streets, we'll know how fast the new A4 processor is clocked and how much memory it's working with. If it's a lot more powerful than a 3GS, that will certainly be a big selling point to me regardless of whether that added power is utilized initially or not.
Yeah, I kinda wanna see the tear-downs as well, but from what I've heard from the prototype leak, it's a significant difference. I think the multitasking and the 4x resolution will make it worthwhile in itself. I'm like you, I don't care about cameras or video chatting on some shaky handheld phone. The promo video for it seems to ignore the reality that 2 people holding iPhones and video chatting are gonna have a pretty shaky conversation.

I also like the glass back and steel edges. Much nicer than a plastic bubble.

Yupp totally sold out of pre-orders! That was fast. So much for the "I will wait till tomorrow to pre-order, so this hype slows a little"

I am a 3G myself so it's been 2 years. Back then I went in on opening day after the bum rush was over and just put in an order for a new one. Came couple weeks later. No worries.

I will be getting 2 white's when ever they release them. Wife and I both want white so we will have to do something to differentiate the two.

No need to sell me on anything going from G3 to i4 is a no brainer to me.

We shall see who has the "market share" or who out sells who iphone to Android. Then again the Android is whoring itself out to anybody so I could expect there being more sales. Apple doesn't care about being top seller they care about cutting edge tech and excellent product.

Everybody is saying OH the Android is so much better/faster than the 3GS but that Android JUST CAME OUT and the 3GS is due to be replaced. So that Android is just catching up to or just passing the 3GS. i4 then leaps ahead. Much the same happens with Windows and Mac. Windows tries to catch up but Apple says that's yesterdays news I am outta here!

Well, and profit dollars and paid App Store/iTunes/iBooks subscribers. It's less about the phone than a device that opens continual revenue streams. It's a pretty smart idea, and very well implemented.

I would give Android phones a much closer look if I didn't have the current 'scheme' that I currently was hoping to implement.... buy new iPhone for my wife, take her iPhone (3GS) and remove the camera so I can use it at work, and sell my BlackBerry. Next year, she'd get the next new one, I'd get the iPhone4, sell the 3GS, etc.

So my wife has to like the phone, and while she enjoys the iPhone's gadgety features, I don't think she'd be as interested in the more tech-oriented Android phones. And we're already set up with iTunes and apps, since I have an iPod touch as well, so that counts for something when it comes to easy migration.

"It was the largest number of pre-orders Apple has ever taken in a single day and was far higher than we anticipated, resulting in many order and approval system malfunctions." In a press release.

Just announced............OVER 600,000 PRE-ORDERS

That's insane. I wonder how many of those people are overextending themselves financially just to get this thing.

I've been waitin' 3.5 yrs for a new phone. I was happy to be getting a 3GS, but now I just gotta wait longer after getting my hopes up.

Do you know what I did to "afford" these phones? Sold stuff on Ebay and cashed in my 2 years worth of change. One funded the wife the other funded mine.

Yes it's creative but hey it's the reason why I save my change........to blow it on something JUST for me!

not sure if this is suppose to be satire like theonion but i found it funny regardless

http://www.bbspot.com/News/2010/06/iphone4...-trial-run.html

Frank Patton, Vice-President of Global Communications at AT&T, said, "You ain't seen nothing yet! This will seem like a walk in the park and June 24 will be more like a walk in the park during the zombie apocalypse. Coincidentally most of our customer service reps will be carrying shotguns on June 24."
The new antenna on the iPhone 4 will be the cause of the problems on the network, according to the engineer at AT&T. He said that dropping calls was an easy way to reduce the load on the network, but the new antenna will make that much harder to do, so the network will probably "go down in flames like the Hindenburg."

SO best Buy isn't taking any more pre-orders. AT&T's website is still hosed, and I can't upgrade my account for anything, much less the iPhone.

But I finally got through on Apple's site for a pre-order shipping (albeit it says July 15th or later).... only to find out that they will only ship to my billing address or an Apple store. And they require a signature. Well, my wife and I both have jobs, so nobody's home during the day. We had the 3GS shipped to her office last year, but apparently they won't do that anymore. And the closest Apple store is more than an hour away.
