We just bought an iMac last week. It's officially the +1's computer, though I'm learning to use it, since I've never had a Mac before. It's definitely slick, and while there's bonus points for the 24" widescreen sexiness and the "take it out, plug it in, turn it on" convenience, I'm the type of person to always wants things slightly more advanced.
I still run WinXP on my desktop... because even if I wanted Vista, I'd have to buy new hardware to run it. I built my PC, and I've maintained it well, and it's still quick, despite the key parts being 6 yrs old. I plan to take the wife's old PC (which the iMac just replaced) and reformat it to run Ubuntu Linux. So I'll have an office with 3 totally different operating systems.... none of them Vista. Not sure when I'll get around to that... but we'll see.
Basically, assuming I don't have a catastrophic motherboard/processor failure, I will probably never have Vista. The biggest strike against Vista is that there's just no need for it. When Windows 7 comes out, my current P4 will just be too old, so I'll have more than one reason to get a new one.
So yeah. I wasn't helpful at all to this thread... but hey, I felt like saying something before I went to bed.

it will eventually reach its "end of life" and they will no longer provide new drivers,
patches, etc. etc.
Although at that point, hackers will be moving on to attacking Vista, Windows 7,
whatever the newest is so it might not matter.
