Default why do 95% of s2k owners think

if Honda stops making the S the value will go up?

i read this all over the board - are S owners just silly

no question the S is a great car BUT it's NOT an nsx or a supra or any other higly sought after car..

the value of the prelude, pinto, pacer, yugo and many other cars did not increase in value when they stopped making them

Yup. It is not a supra because they still make the f'in thing. If they were still making new supras right along since 96 or whatever, you wouldn't be able to sell a 12 year old Supra for the ridiculous money they get for it now.

Supply and demand. It may not go up steeply, but it will retain it's value much more since you just can't get one new or as easily. you cannot compare a car like a pinto that was sold in large numbers to a s2000 that was sold in lower numbers and is more of a niche car.

The S is the type of car that only a certain person wants. So, if there aren't many available, that person will pay a premium to own it. Just like the NSX and Supra and RX7.

Interesting. I don't see the value going up in the immediate future for sure. I do though think as the S2000's get older, and I mean older like my Dad's 1957 MGA is old, I think the S will command a very high price.

I see and agree with you Steve, but on the other hand there will always be those few crazy people out there who want something specific and are willing to pay for it. If you asked me a year ago if a 1990 CRX-Si with 26,000 miles would sell in 2007 for $11,500 I would have laughed in your face saying no way in hell. However, having seen it happen with my own eyyes I now know, it is indeed possible.

Steve, I am pretty sure the supra and rx7 were way overpriced befroe the movie

I don't think the value will jump 10k overnight when Honda finally kills it. what I do think will happen is that over the course of a few years, a bunch of kids will buy them and rice them to sh1t and then crash them totalled.

this will make much less of them available. There will always be a certain amount of people who will really want something in a car that they can only get from the S. so, these people, not able to buy a brand new one and having a tough time finding a decent s2000, will pay good money for one when they find one.

Because there is also 16 years worth of NSX's to choose from and the car was already out of most peoples price range. Big difference trying to find buyers for a 90k dollar Supercar as opposed to a Toyota that sold for 35 - 40, especially when a Supra can be tuned to run rings around the NSX. The Supra is accessable to a lot of tuner kids, just like the S is.

Even still a 1991 NSX still commands mid 20's, thats' stil 30% value (even more if you look at the price of a new NSX in 1990 (65k I think))for a 17 year old car. I'd say that's holding its value pretty well...

On a side note, I think a clean, unadulterated, well maintained S2000, especially an AP1 will most certainly go up in value and become a collectible in 10 - 20 years.

The S will continue to depreciate for years to come.

prediction:
25-30 years from now when a bunch of 45-55 year old guys who have made lots of money hit their midlife crisis they will lust back to the cars they wanted as a youth.
The S2000 will be among those cars. These guys will pay ridiculous amounts of money for well kept examples.
and a bunch of current S2000 owners will rue the day the ever sold their gold mine.

Absolutely. But tuners had already caught on to hot-rodding their Civics and MR2's long before those movies, F&F just brought the idea into the mainstream.
