Default Woot! Getting my CableCards next week

So that means more TV to watch, and more racing to watch. Hopefully they show some stuff in HD.

It's a little PCMCIA card that goes in newer TV's to replace cable boxes.

Interesting, I have a cable box as part of my digital package, and I could be enjoying lots of HD stations, if I had an HD TV. I would have to say, my TV is now about 11-years old.

When I moved into the house some 4.8 years ago. Cable box and VCR in back on left. The foam on top was to keep the cats from sleeping on top of it for the warmth...

This makes no sense to me of course. I'm proud of my big stack of electronics sitting next to my TV. Why lessen it but taking away the cable box?

I have a TiVOHD unit... dual tuner, so I have 2 card slots.

The TiVo unit was a gift, so while I pay a monthly fee for the TiVo "service" it's still cheaper than perpetually renting the crippled cable box from the cable company.

Eventually I hope I'll be able to build a Linux Box with MythTV on it, but I've yet to find the time. I'm not exactly thrilled with my TiVo experience, but it offers more options than the cable company's cable box does. I can transfer shows to and from my PC over the network, and play MP3s as well. It has some other tricks up its sleeve, but those are the 2 features I use besides the basic DVR features.
