1st Track Day with M3

Hey guys, just thought I would share my experience with the M3 at the track last week.
Met Jason "wrecked" there as well which was a pleasant surprise. :tipwink:
It was a 2 day event at Thunderbolt w/o chicane with PCA

Heres a 8 min video of my last session on day 2 which I set my personal best at 1:36.2 (Harry's Laptimer)
Which from what I am told pretty good for my first time there with little track experience.

I definitely feel the weight difference coming from the S2000 but the ultimate grip is really on par.
The M is much more forgiving or balanced with oversteer compare to the snappiness of s2k. Makes me want to really try learning how to hold a drift altho tires will be very expensive lol.
On the main straight I got it up to 145mph on the speedo before hard braking into corner 1. Jason was jealous of the power cause NA s2k can only manage about 125mph lol. Supercharger!

Engine note is amazing I got compliments all day from P-car guys.
Love how its more track ready unlike the S2000 (cracked rotors, oil baffling, etc) and definitly better to and from the track :D

I will be at NJMP again with Evo guys for a event called Cold Tire Domination, Nov. 23-24 if anybody wants to join in as a last trackday of the year. Info over at http://forums.evolutionm.net/motor-s...r-23-24-a.html

dope dope   ...it was a toss up between an m3 sedan or a daily/s2k for me...seeing this video/thread makes me second guess my decision but it's nice to know that if something breaks on the s2k on the track and I don't have the cash to fix it right away I got the daily still while it goes under the knife

gofast182 09-28-2013 04:03 AM

Kind of seems like the main point of your post is to list all the ways the S isn't as good as the M3, Dave. :ponder:
Anyway the M3 is a great car and I'm glad you got it out on the track and had a good time. I wish more people would experience their cars on the track because not only is it an incredible thrill you're driving in ways and learning skills you could not possibly do on any street.

Nice! I'm currently waitlisted for a PCA event on Nov 2-3 at NJMP, but I'm going to register for this event. Just sent an email to Marc.

True, having a backup is always a great idea. Not saying S2k is bad I really do miss it but M3 is just more all rounded.

Hah maybe it kinda did sound that way but in a sense of all roundness/do everything car it is.
S2000 is a more specialized car and the M3 cant beat the feel and X Factor of the S2000 that comes with the lightness. I tell my friends all the time that I regret selling my S2000 but after a track day with the M3 I still regret but just a little less :)

nice seeing you at the track! Your car sounded amazing! one of the best I heard all day. And wow, 1:36.2 is good. My best recorded was 1 full second slower.

Thanks! Well I still had MDM on so I was pushing without much regard lol

wrecked 09-29-2013 04:34 PM

MDM = traction control? I only recorded 2 or 3 sessions out of the 12 I did so it's possible I could have broke into the 1:36 range

I would have never read through that evom thread unless I saw your post. I'll book my room later, debating whether to drive up Friday or Saturday. I'm about 3 hours away.

EternalLx 10-02-2013 09:14 AM

I would stay the night before. I cant do waking up at 3am or 4am to get to track at 7am.

The hotel is 10 mins away and free breakfast.

It's ok Justin, Dave knows what happens under less than ideal conditions... ;)

Amen to that. I really don't understand how people mod their cars in ways to just make them look nice but handle like shit. I bet if more people tracked thier car or even auto-x'd it they would see the light lol

Awesome stuff! M is a great track car, yea it's a bit heavy compared to s2k but for an all around luxury car it's superb. Plus the s65 like the f20 is freakin bullet proof! I'm very tempted to order track pads/lines/ducting/and coil overs for mine, but need to get the s completed first.

EternalLx 10-04-2013 08:39 PM

For brakes I had Pagid RS-19 in front and Stoptech streets in rear with Motul 600. Helded up very well.

Glad to see more guys getting hooked on road course but be safe out there :tipwink:
