Tein Mono Flex Coilovers Review
I just installed the tein mono flex coilovers yesterday and still working out the settings, but damm they are smooth as hell. I would've thought the high spring rates are going to be bumpy as hell, but just as all the other coilover setups i tried, they ride better than stock.
The rear was lowered a bit too much and i need to raise it back up about 1/2-1 inch. The rear coilovers have helper springs and there is still a good amount of travel in the back, which is defiantely good. I set the rear coilovers 6 clicks from the hardest setting. Front is needs to be lowered a little bit more, and i set it at 7 clicks from the hardest setting.
Driving impression: According to the tein manual, i was supposed to start out at 8 front and back and adjust from there. I found the car leaned more towards understeer at this setting, i adjusted the rear harder to try to dial in something more towards neutral. The ride was good on smooth roads, but the car hops on sharp inclines like it does stock, but the hopping is much more pronounced. I will play with some of the pre-load settings to try to dial that out. I tried making the front softer by a click and turn in was not as good as the initial setting, but there was less understeer in the setup now. Still have a long way to go as far as setting the car up. The car does not handle worse than stock, like most ppl say about aftermarket suspensions, the car rides better than stock, it leans less, it is more stable at the limit, and the transition to the rear sliding is a little more progressive. Overall very good product, i have tried driving the regular flex and the rear is a little more bumpy, the front feels very simliar.
The Good: The ride is perfect. Not jarring at all. Very comfortable. Leans a lot less. Rear has a very smooth transition. The steering wheel is tighter. Brake dive is less pronouced. Very quick reflexes.
The Bad: Rear is hopping, turn in is still a little slow. I am sure these can be dialed out. I will play with it some more tonight.
Just wanted to let you guys know, the Mono Flex is a very good coilover. If anyone else has these coilovers, let me know your settings, maybe i may like them more than mine.
Damper Settings: 1 softest - 16 hardest
6 Front
12 Rear
Drop Settings:
1.5 Inches of Wheel gap in front
.5 inches of wheel gap in back
As for the turn in, i will adjust the front a little harder for quicker turn in. Raise the rear first to dial out some camber. Adjust the pre-load in rear to prevent hopping. And hopefully i have found a good setting for the street.
