Default Check Engine Light!!!

Great. Val took the car out the other day and the check engine light came on. I took it out today and did the little gas cap check to be sure that wasn't it, no joy. The manual indicates a possible problem with the emissions controls. Anybody else have their check engine light come on? What was the problem? This will be the second time the car has gone back to the dealer in less than 3 months. I hope this doesn't become the norm.

I was hoping to find a way to read ECU codes without the need of a tester. I troubleshot my '97 Prelude's ATTS problems all the time with the flashing of the indicator light when a jumper was inserted. No joy.

Try verifying that the air box is properly seated and sealed - there's some connections to the box that I suppose could cause a misreading if not properly pressurized...

Come to think of it, when I was ready to pick up my car from the body shop after my little accident, they told me the check engine light was on. I forget exactly what they said but I'm pretty sure it had to do with the air box and/or plumbing to the throttle body. Check tightness and electrical/hose connections.

Yet another edit - I think they said something about "at the back of the engine" which didn't make sense to me since the damage was in the front. However, the Helms manual shows vacuum hoses on page 11-19 (in the 2001 manual) that could possibly come loose. I guess you'd need to check damn near every connection you could find.

my check engine light came on last week with no reason... All I did was reset the ECU and it never came on again.. If it is really something wrong, it will come up again..

An ECU reset might be worthwhile just to see if it repeats.

BTW, you guys going to the Buffalo event this weekend? Anyone else besides Chris and I (and, hopefully, Teaman)?

Well I reset the CEL yesterday and drove around for about an hour and it didn't come back on. Didn't come on during the drive to work either so I think I'm in the clear.

BTW, you guys going to the Buffalo event this weekend?
The PCA auto-x or the WNY SCCA event? Val and I are going to the PCA event. Much closer to us.

Yep, we'll be at MCC next weekend. Got some magnetic numbers too so people will stop threatening my life for using tape on my car!

Not sure if I will make it to the SCCA tomorrow, scheduled to work. How late do the events last? I may be able to make it out about noon or so to strictly watch....seeing you have to get there early and register to compete.

It's been a long time since I ran a WNY event but I suspect that we'll be at it until at least 3 P.M. All depends on how fast the event gets started and how many entrants show up...
