Mark 355's new car - the S2000 has been replaced

So our good friend Mark (Mark355) is considering selling his S2000. Below is his post from the Upstate Chat Thread

Guys, selling my 06 AP2 to move into something more practical. Announcing here in case you or anyone you know wants to buy it before I put it up in the s2ki CFS section next week for $26k. Will give community members and people they vouch for a little break on price. Car has 48k mi and is being sold as-is with all extras. PM me if interested.

I figured we'd start a thread to discuss options for replacing his S2000. Maybe we'll find him some good choices or we get his gears moving in the direction of why sell something thats as much fun :p

So please lets discuss and "help" Mark make his decision.

Here is the car being replaced (Silverstone with HT)

Toyota just trademarked the Supra name in Europe hinting at a return - is that what started Mark thinking down the path he appears to be going :ponder:
http://www.autoguide.com/auto-news/2...ming-back.html

The Japanese brand has trademarked the name Supra in Europe for use on an automobile. Back in 2014, Toyota also trademarked the name Supra in the United States, hinting that the brand is getting ready to use it again.

It is well known that Toyota and BMW are working together on a joint sports car project that will eventually bear the new BMW Z4/Z5 and a new Toyota sports car which will almost assuredly be called the Supra.

Also, I hear Robert has some things to say to Mark about the aftermath of selling an S2000 :argh:

:iagree:

I nearly fell of my chair when I saw his post.

Speaking of practical choices, maybe something like this Lexus

or a new Lexus IS

Room for 4, four doors, amenities to pamper the driver and available AWD. Will look nice on Instagram too

Well, why does he think is he selling it?

I would rate my biggest mistake in life was selling the Austin Healey 3000 - well actually, I more or less gave it away to someone who was willing to "restore" it.

Put some collector car insurance on it and tuck it away in a storage unit until the day comes. Meanwhile buy a second hand mini-van for toting all of life's paraphernalia.

I think he has gotten to a point where owning the car is being a bit of a mental drain for him. The roads around here are rubbish and he does not seem to be enjoying feeling every crack in the asphalt. He'd like to move on to something more compliant that he can drive all year round without having to worry about parking it at the mall or the grocery store.

You make a good suggestion though about insurance. Mark - talk to Hagerty's about getting collector car insurance for your car. It will be a good deal cheaper given how little you drive it. I have talked to them and they will gladly insure the S2000.

The Acura's and Lexus' will all be nice. But you will be over the luxury ride way sooner than you think. At that point, you will itch to get back into something sporty.

The GTI, STI and Audi S3 are options too. But then even those can ride harsh. The question you need to answer is whether you are prepared for the regret that will likely accompany getting rid of the S2000.

What does Mark have for a DD now?
Levi

The AP2 is the only car I own, but I have access to other cars including a business vehicle. I'll be back in something fun in a few years. For now, nothing sporty or special.

As soon as you sell it, you'll want it back.
Find a place to store it... and come back to it later.
