Default Help with Windows Vista

Hi guys,

I know of you are experts on computers so maybe you can help me.

I have a Dell Inspiron 1318 running Windows Vista.
Whenever I try to install anything, the install goes fine but the Icons/ shortcuts for the programs i installed don't work.

They dont work on anything; Not the desktop, the quick link bar, the start menu or navigating through windows explorer.

Anyone know what the heck is going on? I installed iTunes and MS Office and can't access either of them.

Thanks

J's

there's a WHOLE bunch of stuff that toggled and not, running and stopped.
Nothing that looks directly related to initializing a program or installations etc.

Mind explaining what exactly i should be looking for?
