11 Vacation Days to Burn this year
If your single, Vegas 2-3 days then spend a couple of days detailing the car and tie up some loose ends around the house. Do you have to take it all at once? I couldn't take that much vacation at once....without going to an actual destination
Hmm... I'm getting a lot of suggestions for road trips. My biggest concern would be the weather this time of year... especially if I'm in the S. Plus, if I take the S on a road trip, that means I have to get a new set of tires, since mine are almost shot.
I've already been to most of the places in Elistan's route, but I wouldn't mind heading up to the Pacific NW. I've never been there. Whatever happened to fperra? Maybe I could crash at his place.
Maybe hit Yellowstone or something, too. Anybody from that part of the world know what weather is generally like in November or early December?
Mr.E, I don't have to take it all at once, and honestly, unless I do take a road trip, I probably won't. But, I don't really want to set aside vacation time to do house projects. I've done that in the past, and it never worked out... I just ended up sitting on my ass, and never actually getting around to the projects.
Thanks for the suggestions, guys... keep 'em coming!

OK... while we're on the topic of road trips... for those of you that have done extended ones... how many miles per day, or how many hours of driving, is sustainable for an extended (2-week) road trip. I was looking at the mileage from DFW to Seattle, and it just doesn't look do-able in 2 weeks, especially if I make any stops along the way (Vegas, LA, PCH scenic route).
I know that when I used to road-trip with my parents, we would do as much as 8 hours driving per day (8am-6pm, stopping for lunch, fuel & bathroom breaks only), and it was miserable.

So, originally I was planning on burning the last of my vacation on the week before Thanksgiving and the week before Christmas, and I was just going to visit the family. Unfortunately, my boss said we'd be too shorthanded on those weeks and asked me to reschedule to different days.
So, I have 11 days to kill between now & Christmas. OT: Plan my vacation!
Key requirements:
starting point: Dallas, TX
budget: about $1000
Blackout dates:
10/19 - 10/25
11/16 - 11/29
12/14 - 12/31
For inspiration, here are some ideas that have already been suggested to me:
1) Cruise: economical, but I've done a cruise before and didn't care for it.
2) "Stay"-cation: Actually a good idea. I've probably only done about 1% of the activities available here in DFW.
3) Road trip: Not a bad idea, but where to? Not much scenery for driving in the fall/winter. Plus, weather might suck and roads could be sketchy if I drive northward.
So, what else can you guys suggest?
GO!

^ Sounds like a good trip. So, I take it you guys rented a car, or was one of your friends local to SD? If you rented, did you just get a normal car, or something more fun to take full advantage of the PCH?

It's a great idea that ole Tapout had. If you do it, stop by (I live just off the 1/101) and we'll go for a spin in the Lambo.
Or you could do this:

As for the WorldClassDriving event... that seems cool, but pretty spendy for a one-day event... especially one that takes place on public roads. Plus, they're not in Dallas till May of next year.
