1999-2001 VFR Owners Question
I know that there are several VFR owners here, I've got some questions for you. Have you upgraded your stock pipe with a slip-on? What did you get, and how would you characterize the sound and performance with the new can on verses the stock unit? Did you have to alter the bike's bodywork to accept the slip-on mounting hardware? What was the cost?
Beware...
Many motorcycle slip-ons, even those from major manufacturers, don't help but hurt a relatively torquey motorcycle like the VFR.
You probably don't want to sacrifice torque for high rpm horsepower, unless you are doing track work, and inthat case the VFR really isn't the bike anyway.
One of the cycle mags did a recent test highlighting this problem.

Most sportbikes are ridden at only 75% (my guestimate) of the true potential of the bike, hence mods like an aftermarket pipe or can by itself generally serve only to gratify the owner. It does however let him/her hear the true GROWL of a V4 engine at 10,000+ rpms. It puts a grin on my face when ever I hear mine even with earplugs. I run a 2 Bros carbon fiber high mount (can only).
An added plus . . . for those cage driving cell phone yapping suburbanites . . . check to see if the driver window is down while they are chatting away . . . a good time to introduce THEM to the sound of that V4 at full shriek! Just hold the bike in 2nd gear @ 7000 rpm right next to their open windows . . . no more phone conversation!! . . . but they will hate you so make sure you can get away quickly . . . sure makes me feel good when ever I do it!
No other mods necessary to the bike, however I did remove the rear pegs and brackets in addition to bobing (trimming) the rear fender. Cost was about $450 IIRC. Worth it...worth it... worth it!!! http://www.twobros.com

While I don't know about the newer VFR's, I put a Yoshimira on my 1990, and I really like the sound of it. Several people have commented on the sweet sound - that V4 has got to be one of the sweetest engines ever produced. It's quiet until you really crack the throttle. As far as performance, I was able to richen the carbs up a bit (after installation, the bike would backfire every once in a while when engine braking), and it got a little peppier. Of course, the fuel injected versions will take care of that....
txst; If you think about it, the VFR is to sportbikes what the S2K is to sportscars. It's no wonder that you, and others own one, and I want one. They both have great four cyl. powerplants, look first rate...NICE!
I know I'm late with this thread, but I just read it. I've had a VFR for two years now. I've put a full Two Brothers exhaust with a high mount carbon fiber can. It has a K&N filter and a power commander. HP is 104 and it sounds like a short block Chevy with side pipes. For pure power and acceleration, there is nothing like a sport bike.
Dangerous? Yes. Have to wear earplugs and padded leathers? Yes. About as much fun as you can have out of bed? Definately yes!
Hope you're still checking this thread. Always happy to discuss probably the most advanced, over engineered and fun bike you can buy.

vfr800; In next several weeks Honda will unveil the next generation VFR. It has been said that it will be a VTEC headed 800 cc. or so, motor with a "futuristic body shape". Hope they don't kill it's looks. Not sure about the VTEC application either, unless they can drop the "On" point down in a lower rev. range say, 4.5-5K. Guess we will have to wait and see. How much body work was required to fit your 2 Bro. pipe and what was the cost?
