$20K for a Hot Wheels Mustang!
I collected hotwheels from about 1988-2003.... i was going to mention the $70k beachbomb but BBY2KS2K beat me to it.
The guy who originally bought it was given a tip that a Hot wheels engineer had died and his family wanted to sell his little collection for about $10k (i think).... he sold most of the 130 (roughly) piece collection entire thing for about $120k i think.
the guy who paid the $70k for it then found another engineer or employee who had one very similar.... so he bought it but for much less than the $70k.
It is amazing.... if someone had just bought some hot wheels back in 1969-1974 (the 73-74 cars are normally worth more) and left them in their original mint packaging.... they probably average $100-400 a piece right now. some oddities like pink and purple generally go for a lot more.
so a $.50 investment would be now worth $250 or so..... pretty cool.
