the 240 is nice looking car and great handler. But dropping a sr20det is almost mandatory if you want to have fun. The good news is the swap can be done under $4000 and with a little tweaking sr put out 300hp with no problems.

You guys are talking like 4000$ is not baaad....but I bought my 240sx with 127K and all options, with the regular nissan motor,, I think it's 160 hp for 3000$ !! I'd rather to put 7000$(3000$ + 4000$) in 3000GT !!!

Put a four foot square hole in the top with a sparkless chisel and turn it into a planter.

There's actually quite a bit u can do it. I drive a 240 sx as my daily beater. Great handling little car, and very reliable. Much more fun than a fwd car. You can put a turbo on it(check out Backyard Productions in Miami), supercharge it, or do an engine swap.
Yes an engine swap will cost about $4k, but will only put out 200 horse unless you want to make some upgrades. Check out www.240sx.org.
Unstable Hybrid has a good chart listing all the Nissan engines and their output.

rollhard.com sells a kit that allows you to install a 3 liter supra engine, 3jz-gte. i would rather do an rb25 if i had to go the 6 cyl route
