Anyway, my point is that job hopping also carries costs.

Again this is a totally subjective feeling, and I base it on the industry.

For me I've jumped around quite a bit, but it was due to not having a challenge for very long, it wasn't for lack of money or upward mobility it was due to I peaked at what it was I was doing in the area I was doing it and it was just time to move on. I don't know if its always been like this, or if its a new technology industry thing where we're all based on 18 month tech life cycles and after that its time for the new.

All I know is that in my current position, if they keep paying me in USD and letting me do what I want and support me when I do it, I have no reason to leave for a good long time. If it changes I just go somewhere else and hope for the best.

I suppose we just have to weigh the comfort factor as well as personal ambitions. Not sure what I would have thought 30 years ago if I was starting out in a trade or not...but I'm sure it'd be a different more stabillity oriented feeling.

If your employer is taking back 401k contributions, you need to take them to court.

I am probably here to take advice rather than give it since I'm only 19 and have only been in the computer industry for a year and a few months, but so far it seems that if you are in the tech industry you need to bust your ass for one company and one company only. Everyone is dispensible and no one has job security. There are very few contracts up for grabs, but when you do get them, keep them. I'll be heading to Tampa soon for a new contract, the first one since I started this job over a year ago.

Uhh a little to the extreme dont you think..... Of course there is good and bad but in the case Greg's thread there is no good, bad, right or wrong. As long as you are not harming anyone, whatever floats your boat I say.
