400hz to 60hz
Any EE's want to throw me bone here?
I have an AC source that's 120v/400hz that's pretty tough on AC adapters designed for 60hz appliances. Is there a cheap way to step down the frequency to 60hz?
The source is a regular AC three-prong outlet.
Thanks!

need more information, like how much power, type of usage like is this all to supply a +12vdc to charge a pc or something.
if this is to run a dc load consider; many switching powersuplies have a wide range of acceptable input frequency, some may go up to 400hz.
proper 60hz power sources are inexpensive, time to update? anyways look around town for a used 400 to 60 converter, craigslist, ebay that meets your cost limits. most appliances today require a stable supply, for example to huge spikes at power up...

Wow, I'm just curious - what do you have the provides 400Hz AC?
The Constant Speed Drives supply voltage at 400hz, of course all the ship's appliances are designed around this. There is a "wall outlet" that can accept a standard 3-pronged plug, but supplies 120v/400hz.
JAH - this is to run a DC load, namely a laptop battery charger, although the AC adapter isn't spec'd up to 400hz.
Because I know everyone will ask, the outlet is NOT in the cockpit, it's in a bag storage area. I just want to be able to charge my laptop enroute, and I can't use the passenger in-seat chargers.
Thanks!
Hmm, what about these?

No prices that I could find - I get the impression that these are intended for industrial purchasers with lots of funds, not an end-user. Are you sure that it's 400Hz? All the frequency converters I can find appear to have specialized connectors, not the typical NEMA 5-15.
