What amazes me is that 410 bird shot killed the gator. Lucky shot.

I bet it didn't, I bet the Dad's friend got a shot off with the .45.

The idea of bird shot piercing, the thick skin AND skull of an 800lb alligator doesn't sit right with me.

Any of you hunting experts wanna chip in on that one?

I would of love to see that kid handle a 7mm mag while shooting that gator...

My sons are 10 & 8 they use a 410 for doves. Had to be a very close shot to have been able to penetrate the hide

I guess anything is possible. Opening day for doves they were flying higher than normal, I shot a collared dove and it fell right into my dove bucket. Told the group that is how it's done

Probably used a slug or #2 shot, and you don't have to be that close.

The article claims it was bird shot.

Normal cals for long rifle hunts are either 30-06 or a 270 caliber.

Gator is a acquired taste and no it doesn't taste like chicken
