50% pay cut.....
I have a friend who is thinking of leaving his job to take one with the goverment. The job is in the same field basically doing the same thing. Only one catch...... the pay at the goverment job is half of his current salary. His current salary is a bit over 100k.
When asked why his reply was "I just don't get respected where I'm at now" that's his reason for wanting to leave.
What do you think about this?
I have my opinion but will refrain till I hear some responses.

A job is to get money.
I look for respect from my friends and the people that matter to me.
Then again, you spend more time at work than any other single thing in your life, so if you're not happy there you probably won't be happy in general.

Well, I guess if money doesn't matter that much to him, then he should go somewhere where he's more respected and acknowledged. I on other hand, would stay at the current job making 100k. Can careless if I'm not respected by the company, as long as I'm making the cash.
Government jobs come with many "perks" that can more than offset even a deep cut in salary:

You don't have to work to get paid
You can't get fired for not working
Your supervisor probably has no idea what you actually do
If you show up, you get good reviews (see above)
And the list goes on....

Probably only works half as many hours as well. I work 80-100hrs a week and would take less money for a 40hr week job. I think $80-$100k for 40-45 hours is the perfect job. Does anyone have any suggestions?
More money is generally better but at the same time, it's tough going to work when you're miserable. Maybe your friend can find another job with a private company where the pay is comparable or he wont' take as much of a "hit".
