Accident Settling Private Party
Guys,
My wonderful wife was backing up from a driveway and hit a Camaro that was parked on the road. There was some minor damage like a dent in the door and a broken side view mirror. The guy is ok settling without insurance but wants $600 CASH ASAP and is threatening to charge us for rental car fees if we do not pay him by tonight. I was thinking about having him sign some sort of paperwork releasing any liability from us so he doesn't try to hit us up or the insurance company for more money. Has anybody had any experience with this or know of a standard contract? I know this guy is trying to milk it so I don't know if we should just tell him to go through the insurance.

Don't deal with him. Tell him to either contact your attorney if you have one (probably won't call, it will stop there) or, better for now, have him call your insurance company. Tell him they deal with all aspects of claims including rental cars. Be courteous and do not escalate. Do not cave in to any threats. Do not give him cash. You may have to sound like a broken record repeating that either you will check with your insurance company or provide him with a contact number for him.
Thanks cosmomiller, we directed him to the insurance company after he sent us an estimate from a collision shot for $1,000 and kept demanding that we pay him immediately. The insurance process will probably take a while
so I am sure he will like that...
Thanks again!
Thanks again!

Glad its working out however he might try again for a quick buck! I hope it was not a neighbor; you really don't want to have any enemies here so tell him you are doing the best you can with the insurance companies directions so he can't really blame you for some goofy reason. Good luck.
