Default Accidents and you?

So after hearing about a few people that I know get into accidents and almost accidents, I've decided to start a thread about accidents and people on here!

My questions are:

1) How long have you been driving....from the day you got your G1 until now

2) How many accidents have you been in? (AT FAULT OR NOT AT FAULT) and what happened?

3) Did you get physically harmed?

4) Have you learned from the past mistakes....(again even if the accident wasn't your fault)

I'll start!

I have been driving for 7 years.

I've had one major accident which I was deemed partially at fault 5 and a half years ago. Long story short, I was on my way to work and it had just rained. I was passing by this pretty busy plaza and a lady was trying to make a right hand turn. I slowed down and she came out like 3 feet in front of me cutting me off and I ended up wrapped around a hydro pole.

I was physically hurt....I had messed up my left side. Mainly internaly bruising but I was in physio for 6 months 5 days a week.

Yes I have learned from my mistakes. I don't second guess that people are going to be courteous to me. I just drive regularly past plazas now and don't give that person eye contact!

26 and driving for 10 years. One fender-bender when I was 17 when some girl who just got her license wasn't paying attention and rear-ended me. No injuries and I didn't make a mistake, so I learned nothing from this.

24 years old, Driving for almost 9 years.

No at fault accidents "on record"

Accident 1 - Mississauga, Ontario, Canada:

Crossing an intersection a driver coming towards me from the right blew the stop/yield (can't remember which) and plowed into the rear right corner of my mom's van. Put a 3 inch crack in the very corner of the wrap-around bumper and totaled his van from the front end being completely smashed in. Pontiac Montana 1 - Toyota Sienna 0.

Accident 2 Mississauga, Ontario, Canada:

I'm parked at my folks house perpendicular to the driveway at the bottom. Dad opens the garage and backs out directly in to the passenger side of the Dodge Daytona before I even got out of it. He said it blended into the darkness because it was black, I say he wasn't looking. Anybody watch Seinfeld's comedy? "I'm old and I'm comin' back!"

Accident 3 - Mississauga, Ontario, Canada:

My fault, despite the other person who caused it. Big intersection, waiting in it behind a car to turn left from a left turn lane. Light turns yellow then red,he and I advance to proceed through our left turn. I look further to the left to make sure no silly pedestrians are still walking the crosswalk. car traveling in opposite direction runs a red light and the car in front of me slams on their brakes. Bad timing of me looking to the left and I bump his bumper with my front license plate holder of my Nissan 240sx. We proceed through and pulls over, and the guy feels bad because we're in this position as a result of the red-light runner. He accepts the only cash I had on me in lieu of a claim or anything: $80. Lucky, as there were two holes in his bumper from my plate screws.

Accident 4 - Calgary, Alberta, Canada:

Driving down a residential street at roughly 15mph. Parked Toyota Corolla driver neglects to check mirror before opening door into the street as I pass, and opens it directly in to the passenger side of my S. Damage covered the rear edge of the door, quarter panel, and rim. Upon first inspection by us at the site she says " Guess it'll be 50/50 eh?" I was tempted to punch her but responded calmly with "Not even close. But that's for someone else to decide." 3 months of waiting for my appointment and the car to be repaired, it looks pretty again. She was found 100% at fault.

Baby Accident:

I've been in about five other accidents that I can remember, one when I was too young to remember and I was strapped in a baby seat. Car doors somehow got locked when the Plymouth Reliant was rear-ended, and my mom was actually outside the car (which was parked on the side of the residential road) about 5 feet away. The keys were inside so they couldn't get in to make sure I was okay so they had to break a window. I don't think I was at fault in that one

age 19, driving for 3 years.

1) spin out in my corolla going about 15-20mph in snow. car started heading out of lane and correction spun me around did a 180. ended in other lane. no collision.

2) comming down from snowboarding in heavy snow. in same '89 corolla GT-S as before. guy in front stopped in the lane for no reason while going down the hill. I applied brakes and just kept sliding. hit him around 5mph. no damage to his car...boke my license plate frame. no reports.

3) last night driving in the S with my friend. it had been raining so it was a little slick. just started to get after it. shifted into 2nd and rear end just shot out, corrected about 3 times before spinning a 180 and stopping in the center of the road....LESSON LEARNED!!! not doing that again! had never lost controll like that in any car before. but we were ok and no cars were around.

1 "real" accident - no fault - woman blew through yield sign in snow...i smashed into the back of her bumper...my car almost totaled..her car needed new bumper

1 minor accident - car understeered onto my street in the snow..hit curb, bent control arms, f'd up rims

3 speeding tickets - 2 legit - 1 set up on my own street. cop magically radared me going 40 mph past him in a 25 (on my own street which is straight for .5 miles...he was clearly visible and i was not speeding).

2 - no front plate tickets

1 - obstruction of view for my radar

1 - no seatbelt which was really an 88 in a 55 but the cop was being really nice

countless parking tickets at my uni

lessons learned - dont speed as much. i still have no frotn plate and still use my radar detector in the same spot. now i am a vol. firefighter in my town though so i dont think it will be much of a problem

28, driving since 16

1) accident in my old Ford Escort. In a parking lot of a large shopping center. Lady in a big suburban was at a stop sign, I was turning in front of her and she decided to go while I was in her way. T-boned both driver side doors. She was 100% at fault.

2) Speeding ticket less than one month later in the same car (doors were still crunched). A simple 10-15 over ticket. My own fault just driving too fast.

3) T-boned in the S last winter (almost exactly 1 year ago now). No snow or ice at all. Same situation as the 1st accident. Was turning left onto a side street, person at the stop sign wasnt paying attention and pulled forward and nailed me.

4+) I've been pulled over many other times for speeding and got off with warnings. One was me sort of "racing" a truck trying to get in front of it before the lanes merged but the cop officially pulled me over for not using my signal after asking me if I was racing and I said no...just a warning.
The only other one was getting ticketed for Exhibition of Speed and Acceleration because I ripped my tires coming around a turn. Got that one dropped in court though.

Lessons learned:
- Be paranoid of people at stop signs when turning in front of them
- Dont drive like such a jackass (still working on that one)

Age: 24

1) Blew a left rear tire in my Supra going 80 mph in the carpool lane. I spun several times across 4 lanes into the right wall. No injury, minor damage.

2) Supra had rear tires worn out in the rain. I knew I shouldn't have driven but I needed to get to school. I lost control doing 50 mph in the middle lane of the highway. I ended up spinning and hitting the wall again. Minor damage, no injuries.

3) The first time I actually made contact with someone else was when I just got my motorcycle and decided to take a late night break from studying by going out for a quick ride. Some drunk/high guy didn't see me going up the road and cuts me off while he was making a left turn. Bike was totalled. Damn interns in the hospital told me I wouldn't be walking for months because of a broken kneecap but after x-rays I found out nothing was broken. I was able to go home and recover fairly quickly. The at fault guy was honest about everything so I felt there was no need to sue. His insurance covered the medical expenses/physical therapy, bike, and all my gear.

22, so driving for 6 years.

1 accident not my fault. A guy ran a stop sign and hit my Integra in the front left wheel. $6,000 worth of damage. Luckily I was only going about 15mph.

Pulled over 4 times, 0 points on license.
