My wife and I drove the CLS a couple of weeks ago. It was nice, but not that much nicer than her '99 Accord V-6 coupe. Power-wise, it's obviously quicker, but comfort, quietness, etc, weren't any better than the Accord, IMHO. For 30 large + I guess I was expecting more.

I had an accord for 2 years 1998-2000.
The TL and TL-S are much quieter and more comfortable.
TL has a softer ride, but TL-S is more comfortable (the seats) and both as as quiet. Some people thinks TL is quieter, but I think they are about the same.
Accord is a great car for 20k or even less, but the only advantage it has is the larger rear seats.
TL also has larger front seats and I would say it again. For a driver, TL is a whole lot more comfortable.
Both are great Honda cars, but TL at 26-27k or TL-S at 30k (market price), it's a steal.
I current have a CAI on it, once I have comptech headers installed, it should be around 305-310HP.
There should be a 6MT next fall. The 6MT is already confirmed for the CL-S this fall.
I understand it's not "you" who's getting the TL-S.
If your friend is a stook driver, then he better not expect anything like the stook. While TL-S handles very well for a FWD mid-size car (typical american car design and size), it is no stook. I had my wife's stook for 4 days, and this morning I was getting sick of the boat 10 minutes into driving the TL-S. I think comptech springs are calling my name.

Thanks guys!
Flyingpig,
my friend was having hard time buying IS300 or TL-S, but he eneded up getting the TL-S because of its better performance and larger size.
What are some of the "must" mods for the TL-S?
I've heard Comptech header will gain 20-30hp to the TL-S?
Also, which exhaust is the best?
thanks again.

TL-S is only faster. IS300 has much better handling.
IS300 has the good looks, too. However, that's only the exterior. Interior design is cheap and it is small.
Most people went for comptech exhaust. It really offers no gain. In fact, you might loose some torque. I had absolutely no intention of making the TL-S grumble like a V8. I like it quiet
For headers, unfortunately, Comptech produces the only alternative. It offers 30HP gain at the wheel. It's a great mod....but at $1300, it's also fairly expensive.
CAI, most people went for Xephyre or AEM. Xephyre is developed by a CL-S owner, using AEM bypass valve, K&N filter and custom tubing. I think that's the most popular choice. It's 200 bucks.

Tell him to WAIT. The 6 speed manual should be available starting in September. I drove one in case I was unable to get into a MSRP Stook. Very nice. If cost is considered there is NOTHING else out there comparable. The IS300 is 3K more, 330 Bimmer is about 10K more, etc. Comparably equipped. I would have waited two months for the 6. My Stook however will be here in July, W/R. If cost isn't a consideration I'd go with a 6 spd. loaded Bimmer 330 sedan. "If" you could live with a little less rear legroom & cost again wasn't a cosideration, M3 M3 M3 M3. Unfortunately cost was #1 for me so I'll be driving a Stook instead of a M3 Convertible.
