Default Advice needed on the workplace

I'd like some advice should anyone know the legalities on this. I was suspended yesterday for alleged theft of company property. (I didn't steal anything, btw) So, assuming I actually DID intend to steal something, because I had not left the workplace with said item, legally that is not constituted as stealing, correct? Suspension would then be illegal based on that premise? I've had people from work calling me asking if I did steal anything, which would then be constituted as defamation of character by my employer? Anyone know anything about this?

On another note, why is it whenever I'm NOT doing something wrong the bad stuff always happens?

how serious is this company on pursuing charges? Also is this a career job? or just some job to get you by (best buy...i know not the best example but you get the picture). I would not talk to this company anymore, get a lawyer and file a civil suit against them for what ever you can sue them for.

LOL...good guess on the workplace. I'm a college student at the moment, so no, it's not a career. However it is a full time job that pays about 26k a year which is not too terrible considering i'm a full time student. I spent $2300 there that night, and they suspect me of stealing an item worth about $100 because I had thrown the box away and was unable to come up with a receipt for them. They questioned why I threw the box away...apparently they've never tried stuffing things into the trunk of an S.

I don't assume they'll pursue me for allegedly stealing something worth $100, especially considering they have no proof, however, you never know. They asked me to come in again tomorrow at my scheduled shift, in uniform, to answer a couple questions.

Amazing. Sounds a lot like several of the stories here: http://bestbuysux.org/comments.html Based on my own experiences and those of others, I just dont understand how that place stays in business and makes so much money.

If I never step foot inside a BB again, it will be too soon.

Just because YOU don't have the receipt, doesn't mean the store doesn't have a record of the transaction.
If you can tell them a day and approx. time (and it sounds like that shouldn't be too hard) they should be able to call up their records to see your purchase.
That is, of course, assuming they give a rat's ass about inventory management...

Got fired today for violating company policy by taking care of personal matters on company time. (stupid excuse, it's a common practice here) No theft, they're not pursuing it, etc. I guess they realized it was bogus. I still get a good referral though for the time I spent there though as I'm pretty close with one of the managers there, and he promised me one. Didn't turn out too terrible...wanted to quit anyhow.

Yeah...you dunno the half of it. I was one of the guys that didn't try to bleed the customer dry. Why take money from someone to buy the CEO another ferrari? Didn't set well.
