hey guys.. got a problem. tonight.. someone IM'ed me with an IM SN that is really similar to mine.

Mine is Dk lee123 and he created dk leeI23.

Well, he is harassing me.. and i want to find out who he is. How do you do an IM IP trace?

Is their such a program? the only thing i found out is somehow direct connect with him.. and in dos, do netstat -n and trace his IP that way....
HELP!!! HE IS DRIVING ME CRAZY!!!

i know i can block him, but i want to find out who the asshole is... for peace of mind... cause he knows my friends.. or.. if he didn't.. he saw my subprofile.. so he has contacted a few already... that is why i want to find out who he is...

 

Probably just doing it just to piss you off. I don't think you can get his IP address unless you have a website he can go to and get his IP address that way.

IP addresses on websites are stored in logs with the time/date they accessed it

 

Get him to direct connect. You can then go into NetStat (open command prompt, run 'Netstat 10') and isolate his IP. It's probably best to have NetStat going before you get him to direct connect, and then look for the new connection in the listing, and minimize the number of internet connections (i.e. close browser windows and other IMs, etc).

If you can't get a direct connection, you can't trace it.

 

You dont have to direct connect...you could just send him a file and run netstat (as long as he accepts the file). I usually go netstat -a

 

Have you reported him to AOL?

 

funny thing, i wrote to AOL about it, but haven't received a reply. I don't really think they can do anything, since, well, anyone can create a screenname, and i can block him if i want. and my friends can block him if they want.. so... i am screwed....

 

If he checks your AIM profile do the link spy on him. Put something that he would probably click on. A friend showed this to me before. You can find his IP this way.
