Pretty true! Even as recently as when I was a kid we had the "Mad Scientist" kit. It used malt vinegar for some of the reactions, but I have no doubt that had we drank some of the chemicals we'd have grown new limbs.
Didn't they melt down toy soldiers back in war times to create lead buckshot? Almost ironic, getting shot by a toy soldier.
